To promote student well-being and build relationships between students, IRC is offering summer recreation programs for newcomer students. IRC is hiring 4-6 temporary Summer Program Educators to support the facilitation of elementary summer programs. This position is a 10-week temporary position from June 26 through September 1, 2023 (some flexibility with start and end dates). There are full-time and part-time options.

The part-time position is 12-15 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, with variable hours based on program schedules (12:30-3:30pm June 26-July13 and 11:00-2:00pm July 17-August 10). The part-time option will primarily provide direct service during program hours and program set-up/breakdown directly before and after program. *This option has flexibility with start and end dates based on program need.*

The full-time position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday 8am–4pm and will include direct service during program hours as well as opportunities to support family outreach, program enrollment, parent feedback and program evaluation, program planning, and administrative tasks.

As a Summer Program Educator, you will have the unique opportunity to partner with the Youth and Education team in supporting newcomer youth as they develop the skills, resources, and knowledge to build friendships and community, gain confidence, and pursue their future goals and dreams.

Major Responsibilities:

- Support IRC’s Youth & Education Program staff implementing IRC’s Recreation Camps for elementary age students, Monday–Thursday afternoons. - Support lead Educators with attendance, distribution and collection of materials, set-up and breakdown of program supplies, and COVID-related health and sanitation procedures. - Support IRC’s summer enrichment programs by leading small group recreation activities and supporting lead instructors with large-group SEL lessons and activities. - Conduct family outreach for program enrollment and program evaluation and feedback. - Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships with newcomer students utilizing a trauma-informed approach to support students’ social and emotional development. - Participate in program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team. - Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency, including COVID Health and Safety guidelines for in-person instruction. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent; BA in Education, Child/Youth Development or related degree preferred. - Experience working with elementary age students; experience in classroom teaching, tutoring, or academic enrichment programs desired (i.e. summer or day camps, youth groups, after school programs, sports/recreation programs, or clubs). - Experience working with multilingual students is a plus. - English proficiency, both spoken and written, and proficiency in relevant language(s) preferred (i.e., Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Ukrainian, Somali, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Burmese) - Cross-cultural experience; connection and experience working with communities from refugee and/or immigrant backgrounds. - Experience and proficiency utilizing online platforms such as Zoom, Outlook, Teams, and Microsoft Office Suite. - Committed to anti-racism and continual learning and growth. - Flexible and adaptable to changing program and student needs. - Team player willing to provide support to other staff and students.

Working Environment:

Elementary Program Summer Educators will be required to work in-person in an outdoor environment, working at elementary schools in Tukwila and Auburn. Program activities will include soccer, games, and crafts. Some remote work will be required, i.e. reviewing activity plans and preparing materials. Access to reliable transportation to travel daily to Tukwila or Auburn (mileage reimbursement for travel to program will be provided). Typical schedule will be Monday–Thursday 12:30pm-3:30pm/11:00am-2:00pm for the part-time option and Monday-Friday 8am-4pm for the full-time option.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
