Job Description

Scope of Work: The Youth Programs intern will work with the IRC Youth team in program implementation, education support, family engagement, and community partnership.

Internship Overview: The Youth Program intern will support overall youth team services and programs, with a primary focus on connecting families to resources and programs. The intern will help conduct needs and interest assessments either over the phone or in-person with families for understanding of family’s needs for IRC youth team program development. Then they will help connect families to the local community resources, libraries, recreation centers, and school resource hubs, while helping families navigate how to access resources, for example transportation getting to programs or resources. They will also support family outreach with community events or programs happening. Time Commitment: 10-15 Hours per week; regular schedule during business hours 9 am – 5 pm. Location: IRC in Denver office 1873 S. Bellaire St, Suite 500, Denver, CO 80222

Duties: • Communicating with youth and families either through interpretation line or IRC in-person interpreter staff • Conducting family and youth needs and interests assessment by calling or visiting families to complete the IRC family assessment questionnaire, and then log the responses in the data excel sheet and as well case notes. • Providing family resource navigation support such as how to get to their neighborhood centers and how to access resources at centers: local library, school resource hub, community recreation centers, etc. • Coordinating with IRC donation supply staff and clients for bicycle distribution to their home. • Supporting IRC youth team afterschool, in-school or summer programs with program material preparation and activity facilitation and supervision.

Internship Learning Objectives: 1. Intern will gain knowledge and experience working within U.S. resettlement process and education systems. 2. Intern will gain experience in youth assessment, program design and implementation processes. 3. Intern will gain work experience in community partnership development and direct service delivery.

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills: • Strong communication skills and comfort working with Microsoft platforms, including Excel. • Previous experience working with youth. • Safe driving record and willingness to transport clients with reliable personal vehicle and insurance • Organized for record keeping of case notes, client calls, and service documentation. • Compassion, patience, and cultural humility working with newcomer families. Flexibility to work remotely and in person for this position.
