Expected duration 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities - Draft and review knowledge products produced by the Hub as assigned, as well as scenarios, concept notes and background papers. This includes: a. Improving the flow and clarity of language so that the final product is clear and concise, easily understood and logical, avoids unnecessary technical language and provides all significant and relevant information. b. Checking internal consistency of the text, data, figures (including maps), tables and boxes; c. Checking cross-references of the facts and ensure error-free texts, and raising any related queries with the BI Hub so that all references and sources are accurately and consistently cited; d. Correcting spelling mistakes and grammatical errors;

  • Liaising regularly with authors to resolve queries directly with them. Editor should submit the work with tracked changes and provide a list of queries and suggested solutions. Any major changes should be flagged.
  • Ensuring confidentiality of the original texts and source materials. The edited document submitted to BI Hub under the given TOR is the property of BI Hub/UNOCT and cannot be submitted, distributed to or used by any other party, unless arranged otherwise.
  • Drafting and reviewing outcome summaries and reports in relation to the BI Hub’s events and other activities as assigned.
  • The editor/proof-reader is obligated to work within the required deadlines and be available to BI Hub for comments and corrections.
  • Support preparations for the BI Hub’s activities and other meetings as assigned, and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, public policy, policy analysis, international law, international relations or other relevant field. Experience: A minimum of eight years of work experience in international affairs, and proven experience in drafting statements, analytical notes, reports, summaries, on counter-terrorism or political matters, as well as in conducting research and providing timely input on policy questions. Good knowledge of United Nations and other counter-terrorism conventions, instruments and documents, in particular the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its four pillars, as well as the UN Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
