Context

NRC is an independent international humanitarian organization, with Head Office in Oslo, Norway, working for people displaced by crises in more than 40 countries across the world. NRC has a global workforce of approximately 11000 directly employed staff, including 550 international staff, 300 Head Office staff in Norway and 100 staff in our representation offices. In addition, NRC has approximately 5000 contingency workers and is the direct employer of a substantial number of NORCAP experts on short-term assignments across the world.

The NRC Head Office Organisational Development (OD) department is the home of our Global Finance, ICT, HR and Supply Chain functions. It also includes the Strategic Planning & Development and Knowledge, Knowledge Management and Internal Comms sections/units. The department is responsible for strategy, policy and risk management within the above areas and provides shared services to the global NRC.

We are looking for an organized professional, with experience in administration and strategy support, and with excellent communication (verbal and written) skills in English language. This role will be central in developing our continuous improvement efforts and provide administrative and strategy support to the OD department, OD Directors and Deputy Secretary General.

What you will do

You will report to Exec Director for OD/Deputy SG and be responsible for developing and running the department’s strategy development and reporting processes, as well as supporting to the OD Directors and sections leaders in their strategy and administrative responsibilities. You will work closely with other parts of the organisation (e.g. the SG Office, the Strategic Planning and Development (SPD) section) to develop the NRC’s continuous improvement initiatives, specifically within areas of planning, management team processes and internal communication.

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

  • Support OD’s Director and Management Team (ODMT) in day-to-day administration of the department, including planning and follow up of OD team and department meetings
  • Develop and facilitate the OD department’s strategy and balanced scorecard processes in close collaboration with the Strategic Planning and Development section,
  • Draft the reports to the Senior Management Group (SMG) and Board on OD achievements and results in collaboration with relevant sections.
  • Be OD’s focal point for contributions to and follow up of evaluations, reports, etc.
  • Assist ODMT with knowledge management, internal and external communication in collaboration with the Knowledge Management and Intl Comms Unit and the SG’s Office
  • Facilitate development and reporting on OD’s strategy in close collaboration with the department’s line managers.
  • Represent the department and maintain good dialogue with stakeholders outside of the department

What you will bring

  • University degree or equivalent qualification.
  • 3 years' experience within humanitarian work/NGO’s, or equivalent.
  • Documented experience and results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Confident in making decisions and recommendations that as substantial impact NRC’s programmes or reputation.
  • Experience from strategy development, planning and administration.
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, knowledge of other languages is an advantage
  • Excellent administrative skills, including development of efficient systems, particularly for management teams.
