Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the IPBES Head of Communications, and based physcially with at the offices of the IPBES secretariat in Bonn, Germany, the Consultant will work closely with the IPBES Stakeholder Engagement Officer to:

Strategize, organize and facilitate operationalization of the Stakeholder Day in advance of the tenth session of the IPBES Plenary - Provide support to the strategic planning and logistical arrangements for stakeholder day – including facilitation of Project Team collaboration, agenda-setting, outreach and event management for both in-person and online participation. - In-person management of stakeholder day event logistics, poster session, speaker management, liaison with technical teams and oversight of webcast elements.

Mobilize, facilitate and support opportunities for IPBES uptake events through stakeholder engagement activities and support to IPBES stakeholder networks:

  • Facilitate new and expanded uptake opportunities globally and regionally, through stakeholder engagement activities, for all published IPBES Assessment Reports, but with a specific focus on the recently-launched IPBES Values Assessment and Sustainable Use of Wild Species Assessment, especially in regions identified as underrepresented in terms of historical stakeholder engagement with IPBES.
  • Work with the IPBES Technical Support Unit on Capacity-Building to help document and track these uptake events.

Deepen and expand implementation of the IPBES Stakeholder Engagement Strategy:

  • Strategically expand IPBES stakeholder engagement in Africa and Eastern Europe, as well as with the private sector.
  • Plan and implement at least two specific outreach events with these underserved potential stakeholder communities
  • Act as the stakeholder engagement focal point for and report on all IPBES dialogues, webinars and similar organized by the IPBES Technical Support Units with a specific focus on stakeholder audiences.

Support existing IPBES national and regional platforms and work:

  • Strengthen collaboration with the IPBES Technical Support Unit on Capacity-Building to mobilize new and expand the engagement of existing national and regional platforms for IPBES.

Produce, and adapt creative content for IPBES social and online media about stakeholder engagement:

  • Work with IPBES communications team to craft, schedule and monitor social media posts about IPBES stakeholder engagement

    Qualifications/special skills University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, environmental studies, or related field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience is required in communications, project management, event management, network-building or stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with environmental issues and knowledge of IPBES, biodiversity and environment-related matters is desirable.
  • Experience in an international organization or intergovernmental context is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise drafts in English.
  • Good organizational and personal management skills, with ability to prioritize work issues to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and adjust to changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through.

    Languages Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Proficiency in any other of the official United Nations languages will be an advantage.
