Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the Office of the Chief Central Service Under the technical supervision of the CISMS Regional Stress Counselor and the administrative supervision of the Central Service (or his/her delegate), the Counselor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the performance of the following duties: 1. Provide adequate Counseling Services within the mission areas (Brindisi and Valencia). 2. Perform individual psychosocial assessments in the case of individual staff members whenever needed. 3. Advise Chiefs of Section upon request, with the aim of improving the working atmosphere in their Section and resolving problems of a work-related or personal nature that adversely affect job performance and productivity. Perform managerial consultations. 4. Provide psychosocial support after a critical incident stress (e.g., individual and/or group) and refer to mental health professionals whenever and wherever there is a need for it. 5. Assure in conjunction with the Medical Services, a continuum of services (referral, short term supportive intervention) to individual staff members who have HIV/AIDS or to those staff members suffering from other serious diseases or illnesses. 6. Establish a link and liaise with the members of the Staff Welfare Committee and members to technically support the development of programmes designed to improve the quality of life of staff members within the mission area. 7. Provide training sessions on stress management and preparedness; "crisis and stress management" and other as needed. 8. Monitor environmental factors that could lead to stress, with particular focus on stress related to critical incidents including emergency and crisis situations, with respect to civilian staff members of the mission. 9. Develop, organize, and implement a psychosocial stress management programme for such staff. 10. Provide monthly reports of activities.

Qualifications/special skills

Master’s degree in clinical psychology or psychiatry is required. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in clinical psychologist or counsellor is required, of which 3 at the international level is required. Experience in Employees Assistance Programme or Organizational Intervention is desirable. Registered at the professional association is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of Italian is desirable.
