Org. Setting and Reporting This position is in the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning. The Staff Assistant works under the overall supervision of the Chief of Division and reports to the Chief of Division and Chief of Unit.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities Within limits of delegated authority and depending on location, Staff Assistants at this level may be responsible for the following duties:

Processing of Communications and Asisstance in Meetings Preparations: •Ensures smooth and efficient information flow within the unit; prepares and processes confidential information; assists in the development of office administrative systems and procedures. •Researches, compiles and summarizes background materials for use in preparation of reports, briefs, speeches, etc. •Attends meetings, prepares minutes, monitors follow-up activities. •Responds or drafts responses to a wide range of correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports. •Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates website; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases. •Carries out quality control function for outgoing documents; proofreads and edits texts for adherence for format, grammar, punctuation and style. •Responds to complex information requests and inquiries (e.g. answers requests requiring file search, etc.). •Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software. •May provide some specialized support to unit (e.g. technology support, editing, desktop publishing, etc.). •Maintains calendar/schedules; monitors changes and communicate relevant information to appropriate staff inside and outside the immediate work unit.

Production, organization and assistance in the publication of Web Content and act as Focal Point for ICT: •Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit. •Serves as a focal point with STIC. Performs tests for production and updating systems. •Serves as the focal point of the Web Unit for external communication tasks. Independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements. •Supports the production of multimedia resources undertaking research, writing drafts, production of content (graphic design, audio/video editing, etc.), obtaining clearances, editing copy, and coordinating approval, translation procedures and distribution. •Collects and posts content to the web site and on the distance education platforms using the tools and software needed. •Supports the install of computer application systems software and hardware according to specifications; monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports. •Performs other duties as assigned.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification Supplemental coursework/training in computer science, graphical or web design and/or multimedia development is desirable.

Training or coursework in production of multimedia tools is desirable.

Work Experience At least five (5) years of experience in general office support or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Out of the five (5) years at least three (years) of experience in using computer tools to support distance education platform is desirable.

Experience in posting and managing website content is desirable.

Experience in graphic design and/or desktop publishing utilizing Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Fireworks, Powtoon, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat and/or comparable computer software is desirable.

Experience managing content and material in distance education platforms such as Articulate StoryLine, Storyline 360 and/or similar tools is desirable.

One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
