Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

In 2021 UNDP’s Somali Women Media Project (SWoMP), created the country’s first all-women media team – Bilan Media – and continues to provide them with support to challenge adverse gender norms, open new opportunities for women in professional roles and bring new subjects to public debate. In addition, the project supports other women journalists in the Federal Member States as well as advocating more generally for women journalists’ workplace rights and against online harassment.

In support of these efforts, UNDP seeks to engage volunteer translators to support training efforts and promotion of Bilan’s reporting.

Under the overall authority of the SWoMP Project Manager, the Online Volunteers will provide:

  • Somali to English to translate three news reports produced by Bilan journalists per week (video and text versions)

  • Somali to English to translate 1 blog or article per month and monthly feedback survey to get ideas and feedback from Bilan journalists and partners. This will involve asking questions from a set questionnaire and translating the answers in a summary document.

  • English to Somali to translate and help with the graphic design, social media production, English and other training provided to women journalists in Somalia.

  • Translation of Somali reporting about women in the media in Somalia, as required

Candidates should have professional experience in translation or interpretation. Professional qualifications in translation or interpretation an advantage.
