Social Media Specialist
Result of Service This full-time contract will develop and lead implementation of a social media strategy in line with UNIS Nairobi editorial and outreach priorities and UN institutional guidance. The social media strategy will focus on sustainable growth in reach and engagement of the UNIS’ social media platforms, while ensuring synergy with the team’s editorial and outreach efforts. The consultant will also develop content and cross-promote suitable content by other entities as appropriate.¿The Social Media Specialist will report to the UNIS Director.

Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: - Conduct a comprehensive review and analysis of UNIS social media platforms and provide detailed recommendations based on this review on ways to increase engagement amongst existing audiences and attract new audiences. - Develop a social media strategy and implementation plan for UNIS platforms focused on quality and robust growth and engagement, informed by the review, UNIS priorities and the Department of Global Communications strategy. - Produces and/or adapts social media assets to promote priority issues and major events through undertaking research, determining appropriate platforms and target audiences, preparing production plans, writing drafts, and obtaining clearances. - Leads development and implements social media strategies for campaigns on priority issues, in line with UN global communications guidance. - Ensures daily monitoring, community management and engagement on UNIS social platforms, and reporting on progress, and taking appropriate follow-up action. - Monitors and analyses social media impact and trends, particularly in Africa, to ensure an agile approach. - Develop social media content production guidance and easy-to use templates. - Conduct social media training as required.
Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. - Experience managing professional social media presence at the regional or international level is required. - Experience implementing regional or global social media campaigns is required. - Strong awareness of digital trends, particularly in Africa. - Excellent writing and editing skills. - Excellent design and audio-visual production skills. - Experience working in sensitive and fast-moving news, communications, or advocacy contexts. - Very good organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities. - Demonstrated commitment to timely delivery of projects. - Strong teamworking skills and responds positively to feedback. - Familiarity with Africa development context required. - Familiarity with the UN system.¿
Languages Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
