Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Established in April 2012, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has a membership of close to 140 Governments (see www.ipbes. net) and seeks to respond to the needs of governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Under the overall supervision of the IPBES Head of Communications, and the IPBES Social and Online Media Specialist, the Consultant will be working remotely:

1. Design, set up, implement and oversee targeted promotion for IPBES social media channels, informed by and aligned with the IPBES Social Media Strategy a. in the lead-up to, during and post the 9th IPBES Plenary Session b. in the lead-up to the launch, during and post-launch of the Assessment Report on the Diverse Conceptualization of the Multiple Values of Nature and its Benefits (known as the “Values Assessment”) c. in the lead-up to the launch, during and post- launch of the Sustainable Use of Wild Species Assessment Report (known as the “Sustainable Use Assessment”) 2. Monitor the performance of targeted promotion for the IPBES social media channels a. Monitor IPBES user/fan/follower behaviour on social media in response to the targeted promotion b. Provide regular reports to internal audiences on performance of IPBES social media promotion activities 3. Strengthen follower/fan base and engagement with IPBES social media through targeted promotion a. Significantly increase IPBES social media users/fans/followers in accordance with the IPBES Social Media Strategy

Outputs/Work Assignment - Targeted promotion set up and implemented on IPBES social media channels - Significant engagement of priority IPBES audiences with the targeted promotions - Significant growth in the IPBES social media follower/fan base - Significant increase in the engagement rates with IPBES social media posts - Significant increase in the reach of IPBES social media posts

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, media, language, environmental studies or related field is required. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: - Minimum 10 years of experience in communications roles, with at least 8 years of demonstrated significant experience in targeted social media promotion is required. - Demonstrated experience with digital communications, digital content creation and research for social media publicity is required. - Up-to-date knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and functions is required. - Knowledge of IPBES, biodiversity and environment-related matters will be a strong Advantage. - Google Online Marketing and LinkedIn Marketing Labs certifications will be a strong advantage - Experience of working for a UN agency or similar international organization will be an Advantage.

Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
