At UNICEF COLOMBIA we work to generate positive changes in the lives of children and adolescents. Our current work plan runs from 2021 to the end of 2024 and aims to ensure that children and adolescents enjoy their rights through equitable access to social services, improve their learning and live protected from all types of violence.

We work throughout Colombia, with special focus on the departments where children have fewer opportunities: Chocó, Cauca, Nariño, Antioquia, Córdoba, Amazonas, Putumayo, La Guajira, Caquetá, Atlántico, Arauca and Norte de Santander.

Purpose of the Position

The Social & Behavior Change Officer reports to the S&BC Specialist/Chief S&BC/S&BC Officer for close supervision and guidance. The Officer provides technical and operational support to the supervisor and internal colleagues by administering, executing and implementing a variety of tasks to promote community engagement and participation, and measureable behavioral and social change/mobilization, requiring the application of technical and theoretical skills and the study of organizational goals, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

- Community work to promote health, nutrition, vaccination actions, specifically targeting ethnic populations. - Design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative methodologies to promote cultural understanding of ethnic groups and their needs. - Design and implementation of behavior change and social change strategies, with a special emphasis on health. - Design, implementation, and monitoring of measurement instruments for beliefs, attitudes, and stereotypes. - Design, monitoring, monitoring, and reporting of cooperation projects and implementing partners. - Training and technical transfers in the social and behavioral change approach, with a focus on health, for implementing partners, territorial and national teams, allies, and local government counterparts. - Technical assistance in the social and behavioral change approach, with a focus on health, for implementing partners, territorial and national teams, allies, and local government counterparts. - Budget monitoring and implementation assistance. - Technical assistance in the social and behavioral change approach for cooperation projects in the protection and education sectors.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations or another relevant technical field
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy or another related area.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
