Result of Service - Significant growth in the IPBES social media follower/fan base among Spanish-speaking audiences and engagement rate per platform

  • IPBES Spanish and English social media and other online platforms updated on time with relevant, accurate, appropriate and engaging messaging and content

Summary of expected milestones – including growth targets for 12 months - Facebook in Spanish – minimum expected growth in 12 months is baseline +/- 6000 followers* - Twitter in Spanish – minimum expected growth in number of followers in 12 months is +/- 100%* - Minimum 14 posts a week on Twitter in Spanish; minimum 7 posts a week on Facebook in Spanish; more posts are expected for selected key events. Minimum 5 posts a week produced in English. (*Estimation calculated based on the 2021 growth rate)

Work Location Bonn

Expected duration - 12 months from 6 June 2022 to 5 June 2023 - Must be based physically at the IPBES Secretariat offices in Bonn, Germany

Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the IPBES Head of Communications, and the IPBES Social and Online Media Specialist, the Consultant will:

Produce, translate, and adapt creative content for social and online media in Spanish and English

  • Further develop and implement strategies for growth and engagement across IPBES social media channels in Spanish and English, informed by and aligned with the IPBES Social Media Strategy
  • Write and manage the translations of high quality multilingual digital content from English into Spanish and vice-versa for social and online media
  • Improve implementation of the IPBES Social Media Strategy by researching, drafting, translating, adapting, and scheduling social media posts in Spanish and English (drafts to be approved by management) as needed for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms
  • Plan and implement thematic mini-campaigns across the IPBES social media and other online platforms in both Spanish and English, including specific targeting per platform to Spanish-speaking audiences
  • Include mentions, tagging, photos, video, audio & graphics in relevant social media posts
  • Strategize and implement a tactical posting schedule to maximize IPBES reach and impact according to specific algorithms of each social media platform and in accordance with approved demographic targeting strategies
  • Translate various communications materials, such as brochures, media releases, subtitles, and infographics, from English into Spanish and vice-versa

Monitor IPBES social and online media performance

  • Monitor IPBES user/fan/follower behaviour on social media across IPBES Spanish and English social media accounts and other online IPBES platforms
  • Provide regular reports to internal audiences on performance of IPBES social media activities related to Spanish audiences with suggested strategies for improvement

Strengthen follower/fan base and engagement with IPBES social media

  • Develop and maintain collaboration with the Spanish social media channels of existing and new IPBES partners, allies, and stakeholders
  • Significantly increase IPBES social media users/fans/followers among Spanish speaking audiences, in accordance with the IPBES Social Media Strategy
  • Significantly increase engagement rates with IPBES social media posts as well as reach and engagement with new target audiences, in accordance with the IPBES Social Media Strategy
  • Prepare relevant responses to messages from followers in Spanish and English across all IPBES social media platforms and craft direct messages for social media and other online outreach in Spanish and English

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, media, language, environmental studies, or related field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: - Minimum 6 months of professional experience in communications roles, particularly in both English and Spanish; demonstrated experience in operational social media roles in both languages - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise drafts in English and Spanish - Demonstrated experience with digital communications and digital content creation - Up-to-date knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and functions - Good organizational and personal management skills, with ability to prioritize work issues to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and adjust to changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through - Graphic design and basic video editing skills will be a strong advantage - Demonstrated professional experience with environmental issues in Spanish regions will be a strong advantage - Knowledge of IPBES, biodiversity and environment-related matters will be a strong advantage - Professional experience of translation, proof-reading and editing in English and Spanish will be a strong advantage - Experience in an international organization will be an advantage

Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required.
