The overarching goal of the UNICEF Strategic Plan, 2023-2027 is to realize the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged. The plan establishes five goal areas aimed at making sure that every child: 1) survives and thrives; 2) has quality education; 3) is protected from violence and exploitation; 4) lives in a safe and clean environment; and 5) has an equitable chance in life. The Strategic Plan, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and their vision of achieving a world in which no one is left behind, also calls on UNICEF to strengthen its humanitarian response and work towards gender equity.

In link with UNICEF Ghana Country program which is aligned to the UNICEF strategic plan, the volunteer will support SBC approaches in support to UNICEF humanitarian preparedness and response as specified in the approved emergency preparedness plan (EPP). When supporting the country program, UNV will be guided by UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children in Emergencies (CCC) for SBC, UNICEF's Social Behaviour Change in Emergencies and the country context and experience.

Under the supervision of SBC Specialist and Chief of Tamale Field Office, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: •Support local stakeholders to coordinate emergency preparedness/response and community engagements at sub-national levels. •Provide inputs for and support the development of emergency preparedness and community engagement strategies, costed plans of action and other relevant documents. •Support rapid surveys and other research around knowledge and perceptions and generation of critical data to inform SBCC actions. •Contribute to and support the design, development, pre-testing, production and dissemination of relevant RCCE materials. •Contribute to the development and organization of SBCC training/orientation activities at sub-national levels and support SBC capacity building of local stakeholders. •Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders - community groups, leaders and other partners in the community, local government and civil society. •Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SBC programme activities. •Put in place an approach to reach special populations (hard-to-reach population, travellers, etc.) in the targeted areas. •Collect regular field data to assess project results and impacts on SBC strategies and activities for analysis and improvement of measurable behavioural and social change interventions. Support the documentation of lessons learnt and best practices. •Support programme sectors in identifying the needs of programmes, developing IEC materials as and when appropriate to enhance programme delivery. •The UNV will respond to other needs of SBC Unit and Field Office

The incumbent will be based in Tamale, Ghana which is relatively safe location and currently classified as hardship category B. Transport, medical, education and other services are acceptable in the city Accommodation can be rented from 300$ to 500$ per month and meals at restaurants cost be-tween 10$ and 60$. Food, household commodities and clothing can be found in shops and markets at reasonable prices. English is the official language in Ghana; however, several local languages are spoken and for many people, their local language is their first language.
