Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Snr CEO, the SBCC Officer shall be responsible for implementation of the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) component of IRC’s DFID funded WISH project. The SBCC Officer will be expected to draw upon relevant behavior change theories and social norms approaches to Behavior Change Communication and develop effective strategies to achieve SBCC project goals. Overall, he/she will develop SBCC strategies that will foster appropriate health seeking behavior among the targeted population to support demand creation for reproductive health services with a focus on family planning. He/ She will serve as the project’s lead liaison between communities, service providers and other stakeholders, and will assist the Health manager in the design, management, and implementation of outreach activities including community health project activities.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Support in development of a comprehensive Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategy and action plan and take lead in implementing the same during the grant period

- Build partnerships and serve as principal liaison between relevant stakeholders and the MoH in the development and implementation of (SBCC) Projects. - Provide technical assistance, in community sensitization and mobilization and behavior change communications, to the targeted population - Develop a SBCC annual work plan and take lead in implementing all activities there in with guidance from the Snr CEO. - In collaboration with program team, develop key reproductive health messages to communicate to targeted populations and monitor the same. - Identify and pursue advocacy opportunities in order to ensure project success. Such opportunities will include but not limited to radio messages, advocacy forums, community engagement sessions and information education communication materials. - Work with other team members to develop, pre-test, and produce communication tools and job aids based on evidence-based theories and methodologies, in line with the SBCC strategy. - Work with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive demand creation strategy and related guidelines and tools that will facilitate the demand creation for different reproductive health services. - Work with M&E teams and Snr RHM/Snr CE & Advoc Manager to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of SBCC activities on a quarterly basis. - The SBBC Officer will contribute to production and distribution of periodic success stories as well as producing advocacy briefs and leaflets. - Carry out any other activities deemed appropriately by the supervisor. - Collaborate with the Senior Community Engagement and Advocacy Manager and Senior Reproductive health manager and facility in charges to convene monthly review meetings at health facility level.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences and over 2 years of experience in implementing social and behaviours change communication programs.

· Additional training in maternal, child health and FP is an added advantage.

· At least three years working experience in maternal and child health programs.

· Good experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs including report writing and communication skills.

· Ability to enhance good interpersonal relationship.

· A good command of both written and spoken English.
