Overview

The position is assigned in The Office of Safeguards (OSFG). OSFG was established to implement and monitor ADB’s safeguards policy and procedures. It advises and supports ADB management, operational departments, and relevant parties, including borrowers/clients in delivering development solutions in compliance with ADB’s safeguards policy. The Office of Safeguards has four teams: (i) Policy and Technical Services, (ii) Regional Operations Services 1, (iii) Regional Operations Services 2, and (iv) Private Sector/Pacific Operations Services.

Job Purpose

The Senior Social Development Officer will contribute to promoting the implementation of ADB’s environmental and social safeguards, including the implementation of the ADB Safeguard Policy Statement (SPS) as well as future policy developments. The incumbent will support the development and implementation of policies, guidance, and good practices on social safeguards in ADB operations. He/She will be responsible for providing technical support to project teams and conducting review and monitoring of projects against ADB policy requirements for land acquisition, involuntary resettlement, Indigenous Peoples, as well as other related social safeguard issues. The incumbent will report to the Director, Policy and Technical Services in the Office of Safeguards, and will supervise administrative staff, on a case-by-case basis.

The selected candidate, if new to ADB, is appointed for an initial term of 3 years.
