Scope of work

The Senior Safeguarding Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Global Wellbeing Unit within IRC’s People & Culture Department. They will be responsible for ensuring that the Safeguarding Practice team is able to optimally apply the mechanisms of the People & Culture department in pursuit of their staff training, policy development and management, and communication agenda. This will include partnering with other teams within P&C such as Learning & Development, Employee Relations, Employee Communications and others to ensure that IRC’s safeguarding knowledge, skills, and content is reaching the diverse global employee audience. Excellent project management, partnership, communication, and customer service skills are critical for success in this sophisticated new role.

Major Responsibilities

Safeguarding Content Management and Coordination

• Ensuring functionality, accessibility, and quality of all globally used staff training tools and systems. These include both online and instructor-led versions of safeguarding training.

• Providing day to day leadership for the safeguarding portion of the IRC Way Day curriculum, IRC’s annual global staff training event.

• Working with all relevant collaborators to develop and roll out all-staff communications related to safeguarding

• Providing leadership for IRC’s knowledge management systems where staff can access safeguarding policies, training tools, and other collateral materials. This includes ensuring linguistic accessibility.

• Maintaining a central comparative database of donor, inter-agency, and partner SG policy reviews

• Building content and providing support for the Awards Management Unit (AMU) teams to be able to respond to safeguarding information requests within business development, award management, and donor due diligence

• Working with AMU to track trends in donor SG questions and trends

• Crafting and maintain communications tools related to IRC’s safeguarding model for internal and external audiences

Supporting Effective Internal Partnerships

• Partnering and liaising with the Global Recruiting team to make progress on the safe recruiting elements of the safeguarding minimum standards

• Collaborating closely with the Ethics & Compliance unit to ensure that IRC reporting channels (Ex: Ethicspoint, Hotlines, etc) are available and functional for all IRC settings, including new and emerging contexts

• Partnering with ECU, ER, and Safeguarding Practice Team to ensure consistent, practical reporting on trends in safeguarding reporting, allegations, and investigations.

• In line with global policy and standards set by Safeguarding Practices leadership, working with HQ offices to ensure that they are making progress on the global minimum standards. As these offices do not see clients, the standards which apply are limited, primarily involving solving logistical issues related to service mapping/site level responders for HQ offices which do not have any service delivery staff.

• Tracking areas where IRC policies need clarification or updating to remain internally consistent and aligned with sectoral standard methodologies/donor expectations.

• Providing coordination support to the Safeguarding Practices leadership during multi-stakeholder policy discussions.

Education: Degree in relevant field relating to humanitarian action, social work, protection, sexual violence, training, or equivalent professional experience

Work Experience: Proven project management experience, ideally with an international humanitarian organization.

Demonstrated Skills and Proficiencies:

• Familiarity with client protection from abuse and exploitation, sexual violence in development and humanitarian contexts in conflict/displacement settings, and knowledge of international protection frameworks and mechanisms on safeguarding

• Demonstrated experience working effectively within online learning management systems and global knowledge management systems

• Capable of applying skills and knowledge in a range of capacities

• Ability to develop multi-media communication materials

• Experience coordinating with different collaborators in a dynamic operating environment

• Flexibility and independence, ability to work remotely

• Consistent track record in working with teams, excellent interpersonal skills, positive and professional attitude, and ability to lead and work well with teams with varied strengths in a complex international environment and with multiple partners

Language Skills: Professional fluency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in one other IRC relevant language (French, Arabic, Spanish) an asset.

Working Environment: Basic office environment with occasional travel (10%)

Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
