Senior Project Associate, MEL– Adaptation and Resilience Finance

Who we are and what we do?

World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent, non-profit global research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity and human well-being. Our work focuses on building sustainable and livable cities and working towards a low carbon economy. Through research, analysis, and recommendations, World Resources Institute puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being. WRI India has the capacity to convene key stakeholders, and forge strategic partnerships with governments, business, foundations, civil society organizations, institutes and NGOs, to scale-up solutions that can bring game-changing results for the sustainable management of natural resources in India.

About your role:

The WRI India Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities is seeking to fill a full-time position to advance Adaptation and Resilience Finance work in Indian cities. To adhere to the net-zero commitments and stay under the 1.5-2 degrees Celsius temperature rise by 2030, it is estimated that climate projects in India require 120 billion USD annually. Despite the climate imperative, cities in the global south continue to face barriers which limit access to finance for A&R projects. Funding for A&R projects continue to depend on public finance capacities of the cities and meeting the private sectors’ expectations of risk and return. This project gives an opportunity to engage with bilateral and multilateral agencies, project preparation support facilities, and philanthropic foundations for mobilizing funds to be invested in A&R projects in pilot cities. Given this project context, WRI India is seeking a dynamic and qualified Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) professional to join our Urban Adaptation and Resilience Project. You will play a critical role in ensuring the project's effectiveness and maximizing its impact.

How your day will unfold:

The selected candidate will report to the Program Director and support the Sustainable Cities program at WRI India with the following: • Develop and implement a comprehensive MEL plan aligned with the project's goals and objectives, focusing on urban adaptation and resilience finance. • Design and implement monitoring tools and frameworks to track project progress, measure key performance indicators (KPIs), and assess the impact of interventions on climate resilience. • Collect and analyse data related to project activities, financial resources, and outcomes. • Prepare regular reports for project stakeholders, including donors. These reports should clearly communicate project progress, challenges, and lessons learned. • Conduct evaluations to assess the project's effectiveness in achieving its intended outcomes and identify areas for improvement. • Contribute to the development of knowledge products such as case studies, policy briefs and best practices related to adaptation and resilience finance. • Help develop knowledge products such as case studies, best practices guides, and policy briefs to share project learnings with a wider audience. • Work collaboratively with project staff, technical experts, and city authorities to ensure a participatory approach to MEL activities.

Qualifications and Requirements we seek:

• Master's degree in environmental science, public policy, development studies, or a related field. • Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and implementing MEL frameworks, preferably in the context of climate change adaptation and urban development projects. • Strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles and methodologies. • Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization tools. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Experience working on urban adaptation and resilience projects is a plus. • Knowledge of climate finance mechanisms relevant to urban development is a plus. • Experience with social impact measurement tools.
