About the Program:

TerraMatch is an online platform that resources local community organizations and entrepreneurs that restore degraded land through a trusted system that vets, supports, and monitors their projects at scale. Launched in 2020 by WRI’s Global Restoration Initiative to match restoration champions with funders, TerraMatch now houses two reporting and monitoring frameworks that enable these small-scale project developers to update funders on their progress through a combination of field-collected data and analyses from satellite monitoring methods.

In early 2023, TerraMatch replaced its original matching mechanism with a streamlined application process to allow restoration champions to apply for capacity building and technical assistance opportunities on the platform and currently supports TerraFund for AFR100, Harit Bharat Fund, and Land Accelerator, gathers user-generated site boundaries to analyze tree count, tree cover, hectares under restoration and other key metrics when a project begins and at key intervals throughout the project’s lifecycle to independently measure progress, using a mix of WRI-generated and third-party data sets.

Currently, TerraFund for AFR100 and the Priceless Planet Coalition fund more than 200 projects throughout the developing world that use TerraMatch to collect and communicate this data. Hundreds more across Africa, Latin America, and South Asia will follow in the coming years.
