The UIS is the official source of internationally comparable data used to monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal on education. With custodianship of SDG 4 Global and Thematic Frameworks, the UIS hosts and co-chairs the Technical Cooperation Group on the indicators for SDG 4. The UIS was established to improve UNESCO's statistical programme and to develop and deliver the timely, accurate and policy-relevant statistics needed in today’s increasingly complex and rapidly changing social, political and economic environments. Within this mandate, the UIS has initiated and supported regions and countries in developing benchmarks for selected SDG 4 indicators and region-specific education indicators; and, under the leadership of the African Union, is responsible for reporting against the CESA framework. As part of its strategy for collaboration, brokerage and the generation of public goods the UIS has worked with UNICEF, World Bank, OECD and the GEMR on the Joint Survey of national education responses to COVID 19 and is developing resources to support the monitoring of commitments for Mission: Recovering Education 2021. The Learning Data Compact launched recently with the World Bank and UNICEF will build on the work done by the UIS to establish a Global Proficiency Framework for Reading and Mathematics, and on methodologies and toolkits to measure learning outcomes to make measurements internationally comparable. **Purpose** Under the overall authority of the UIS Director and the direct supervision of the IT Specialist, the incumbent will assist in providing all levels of desktop support and systems administration. **Main responsibilities and tasks** - Delivery of day-to-day IT support of approximately 50 Windows 10 laptops/desktops (both local and in remote offices), 20+ production Windows servers, 8+ terabytes of storage, photocopiers, printers, faxes and the overall computing environment. Resolve technical hardware, software, or service problems with the IT environment of the Institute and ensure all issues and resolutions are documented while maintaining absolute discretion in dealing with confidential data and documents. - Coordinate with and between IT colleagues in headquarters and with external service providers and suppliers as appropriate. - Assist in the management and maintenance of the server environment to ensure peak operating efficiency and that all systems are properly backed up. - Assist in the planning and implementation of a wide array of IT projects. - Ensure the effective application of IT policies in the Institute and recommend improvements to the technical environment, service delivery models and IT policies. - Support and maintain audio-visual environment at the Institute. In particular: Perform or coordinate provision of preventative maintenance of a/v equipment as per maintenance agreements. Ensure effective stocking of consumables. Provide technical coordination and assistance during a/v use. Train staff on the use of the A/V equipment and boardroom services. Coordinate repair services with external maintenance providers as required. - Ensure day-to-day monitoring and implementing of data backup and restoration to ensure that Institute data is effectively secured. Implement disaster-recovery and offsite data protection policies. - Maintain accurate inventory of computers, software, and licenses. Periodically review inventory to identify and report items that are approaching end of life and recommend replacements as necessary. Assist in purchasing and receiving of any new items, ensuring that all items are entered into the inventory.
