Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Global Technical Team (GTT) in the Department of General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in Vienna. The incumbent reports to the Computational Linguist leading gText Project Technical Team.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the gText Technical Team Leader Assistant (Senior .Net Software Engineer) will be responsible for the following duties:

•Participates in the architecture design, implementation planning, solution development, programming, testing in Dev/QAT/UAT/Production environments, debugging, production roll-outs and troubleshooting and implementation of new and existing application systems releases, modules and functionalities for of the translation tools. •Designs architecture, develops, tests, debugs, and implements complex computer application systems and programmes using GTT established IT standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools, namely: .Net, C#, Visual Studio, Scrum, Agile, Azure DevOps, Octopus, Seq, Azure Cloud, Elastic Search. •Designs architecture, develops, tests, debugs, implements and maintains applications using UN standard web based and client server development frameworks and technologies ASP.NET, MVC, C#, WCF, MS SQL Server, XML; •Develops applications optimized code within .NET framework using Code First technology to carry out database transactions efficiently, data processing logic using stored procedures; - Develops and implements databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality; •Serves as team member in the planning, specification clarification, architecture design, development, implementation and support of computers application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements. •Monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring and incident reports. •Prepares technical documentation for deployed and new computer application systems and conducts technical presentations. •Maintains functional and architecture specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified. •Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment; •Provides guidance to new/junior staff and external experts. •Performs administrative other functions, such as capacity planning, recruitment tasks and budgeting. •Rotates on daytime, after-hours and weekend work shifts, as needed. •Stays available for overtime and on-call assignments, depending on the needs of service. •Performs functions of Team Lead (Officer in Charge) in his/her absence. •Guides, trains and supervises other general service staff and individual contractors. •Facilitates delivery of gText and related language support services in order to ensure efficient processing of multilingual documentation; •Provides support for gText users and related services and helps to expand and improve the effectiveness of these services; •Assists the Computational Linguist in implementing the Division's workplan and overall Departmental policy relating to gText services;

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience 10 years of experience in programming or software development is required.

5 years of experience in designing and developing applications using ASP. NET and C# is required.

5 years of experience with MVC, JavaScript, jQuery is required.

5 years of experience with MS SQL Server and Object Relational Mapping (ORM) is required.

1 year of experience with production systems using Azure Cloud Services such as Azure Service Bus, Functions and App Services is required.

Experience in team lead role including release and team management is required.

Experience with production deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of Elastic Search clusters is required.

Experience in production support of complex multi-layer systems is required.

1 year of experience with XML is desirable.

Experience in tools managing version control such as Azure DevOps Services or GIT is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
