Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Solution Architecture Team in the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division (ERPSD), the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The Senior Information Systems Assistant reports to the Information Systems Officer.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Senior Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides support for Umoja HCM/Payroll solution performs complex troubleshooting for issues escalated to Tier 3 level.
  • Monitors applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
  • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of continuous improvements in the information system releases, modules and functionalities; conducts version management.
  • Perform system configuration and customization related to HCM/OM/TM/Payroll functionalities.
  • Monitors batch jobs execution using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
  • Manages and maintains Business Design Documents (BDDs) for functional areas and manages and administers changes to technical documentation in accordance with prevailing change management and operation procedures.
  • Assists in developing/refining support and operations procedures for relevant computer applications systems, including programming requirements and recommendations to users for the programming interfaces.
  • Assists in developing of system and other functional specifications, business design documentation for HCM and HR functionality in SAP HCM NPO.
  • Serves as team leader in projects dealing with the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of simple computer application systems; liaises with users to define and specify requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype computer application systems; performs installation and maintenance of computer applications systems in user offices.
  • Contributes to feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation and testing of computer application systems improvements and new computer application systems.
  • Contributes to the coordination and implementation of unit and integration testing of the SAP HCM processes of the Umoja solution, including by assisting in the designing and executing of test scenarios; assists users in acceptance testing.
  • Assists in the identification of solution gaps, including business process and document workflow analysis, organization and maintenance of document repositories; identifies classification schema, retention and archival procedures; designs and develops workflow systems; conducts research on document/information/knowledge management computer applications’ tools, procedures and standards.
  • Drafts correspondence and communications; including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; conducts research on new technologies/ developments; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions; assists in the implementation of new technologies such as versions of SAP modules.
  • Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff; plans day-to-day work and supervises other staff as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Competencies Professionalism: Knowledge of Human Resources and Finance policies and processes in the United Nations. Knowledge of system development workflow for HCM solutions in the SAP environment is required, including analysis, design, and configuration. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to include proficiency in the development and implementation of systems of moderate size/complexity. Knowledge of interactive systems; good knowledge of organization’s information infrastructure and IT strategy as it relates to user area(s); independently maintains assigned systems and develops innovative approaches to resolve a wide range of issues/problems. Ability to respond to changing requirements and assignments, ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Ability to perform a wide range of application software development and maintenance tasks under minimum supervision. Shows pride in work and in achievements. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience A minimum of ten years of experience in the application of the United Nations or any similar large scale international organization's staff rules and regulations, administrative issuances and application of established processes and procedures in the areas of Human Resources Management is required.

Experience with SAP NPO HCM suite of functionality modules is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year. Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
