Job Description

Overview: The Senior Development Manager leads the design, implementation, and monitoring of all resource development efforts in support of the IRC in Denver’s mission. They guide the Development team’s work to cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate, foundation and individual donors; manage the annual calendar of resource development activities including donor moves management, grant proposal preparation and submission, grant management and reporting, annual appeals and other fundraising campaigns, and fundraising events; ensure consistent donor-centric communications and engagement touchpoints; and participate in annual budgeting and fundraising goal setting. The Senior Development Manager supervises a team of staff, interns, and volunteers. As a member of the IRC in Denver’s Senior Management Team, the Senior Development Manager also provides effective leadership and oversight across their areas of responsibility and across the office to ensure sound stewardship of resources and donor relationships. They will contribute to long-term strategic planning and share responsibility for implementing and achieving the office’s strategic plan. Additionally, this role will represent IRC in the local community, and will engage regularly with donors and other stakeholders to increase awareness, generate support, and raise the visibility of IRC’s work.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource Development

- Meet or exceed yearly fundraising goals for the IRC in Denver and participate in annual goal setting to grow philanthropic support and diverse funding streams within the office’s budget. - Develop annual fundraising plans for the IRC in Denver with specific and measurable goals and objectives for restricted and unrestricted funds. - Implement strategies to support fundraising plans and solicit unrestricted and diversified funding through grant proposals, individual donor solicitation, and other requests for funding. - Serve as the focal point for prospect research, proposal development and donor cultivation. - Work with the Development team and subject matter experts within the program teams to prepare and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budgets, amendments, and reports. - Identify, cultivate, and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative strategies. - Support efforts to secure cash and in-kind contributes to fulfill matching requirements for specific grants; maintain appropriate documentation for cash and in-kind donations. - Oversee annual fundraising events, donor appeals, special campaigns, and other events.

Donor Relations and Communications

· Ensure that all external written and verbal communications are accurate, professionally written, consistent with IRC brand guidelines, and donor-centric.

· Coordinate with colleagues to produce and distribute communications materials, including brochures, monthly newsletters, social media, and website updates.

· Conduct outreach and networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors.

· Raise awareness about the IRC and represent the office at meetings, seminars and forums.

· Work across program teams to build skills that enable the broader staff to effectively engage with donors, share their work, and represent the work of the IRC.

Grants Management

· Successfully increase and diversify grant funding secured to support the IRC in Denver.

· Oversee grant proposal planning, preparation, and submission for new and renewed funding.

· Establish and maintain an accurate and current grants management and donor tracking system.

· Ensure complete and consistent documentation is kept for each contract and grant.

· Coordinate and convene timely grant opening, status, and closure meetings.

· Work closely with program, finance, and operations staff to prepare and submit timely interim and final narrative and financial reports to donors.

· Liaise with IRC HQ staff on matters related to contracts, grants, and subgrants.

· Follow IRC protocols pertaining to contracts and grants and manage routing and approval processes.

General Management

- Promote a positive working environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible for all, in accordance with the IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Safeguarding, Anti-Workplace Harassment, Respect at Work, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation. - Provide leadership in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards, including: - Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Development staff, volunteers, and interns. - Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director on resource development efforts. - Proactively seek solutions to address problems and escalate management issues and concerns. - Assist Executive Director and Finance Manager in budgeting process. - Participate actively as member of the IRC Denver Senior Management Team and liaise with other program managers and staff to ensure efficient collaboration with all departments.

Job Requirements:

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, graduate degree in non-profit management, public administration, international relations, or a related field is preferred.

Work Experience

- Minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience in fundraising, public relations, proposal writing, grants management, and other related duties in the non-profit sector. - Prior people management experience strongly preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. - Commitment to leading in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through true collaboration and empowerment of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives. - Outstanding interpersonal communication, relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships with colleagues, donors, community partners, and government agencies at all levels. - Successful track record developing grant proposals and securing grant awards. - Strong research skills, with knowledge of tools used to identify prospects and pursue funding. - Experience with program and budget management, monitoring, and evaluation preferred. - Proven leadership and team-building skills. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required. - Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. - Self-starter with outstanding problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. - Strong organizational skills, with consistent attention to detail and accuracy in work product. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Salesforce; ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment and remote work on a limited basis. - Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%. - Occasional weekend and/or evening work required. - Staff are required to adhere to IRC’s COVID risk mitigation policies, which may include masking, physical distancing, enhanced hygiene practices, symptom screening, and isolation and quarantine when needed. IRC policies may be stricter than federal, state, or local level policies.

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, regular position classified as exempt and ineligible for overtime under state and federal law. Starting compensation is $65,000 - $79,000 depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. In the US, these include: 10 sick days, 10 US holidays, 20-25 paid time off days (depending on role and tenure), medical insurance starting at $145 per month, dental starting at $7 per month, and vision starting at $5 per month, FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs, a 403b retirement savings plans with up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus a 3-7% base IRC contribution (3 year vesting), disability & life insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support counseling and care in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
