Overview

Lead collaborative R&D initiatives for emerging technologies.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, technology, environmental science, energy systems, public policy or related area.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in science and technology policy, project management, climate policies/environment/energy and/or technology transfer for developing countries, preferably in knowledge sharing and/or capacity building.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset; knowledge of Korean is desirable.
  • Liaison with different stakeholders, including the private sector, governmental institutions, civil sector, etc.
  • Engagement with government officials and multi-country development processes.

Result of Service - Workplans and activities related to engagement of thematic networks of institutions and experts on collaborative RD&D for emerging technologies developed. - Design of targeted country, regional, and group strategies (such as LCDs/SIDS) strategies and ensure country strategies leverage opportunities to advance collaborative RD and D - Resource mobilization and activities related to donor reporting, workplan preparation, donor pledges etc. in the focus area of Innovation and collaborative R D and D - Activities relating to National System of Innovations defined, developed and deployed

Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the CTCN Director, the incumbent will provide support to: 1. Takes the lead to develop, implement, and evaluate assigned activities towards establishing and supporting thematic networks of institutions and experts on collaborative RD&D for emerging technologies. 2. Conducts and directs review of relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions on establishing collaborative RD&D as part of National Systems 3. Serves as an effective spokesperson and establishes collaboration and partnerships with key officials at all levels inside and outside the organization Supports in preparation of various written outputs, e.g. background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. related to Innovation and collaborative RD and D Supports establishment of Twinning Arrangements for South-South and North-South collaboration on RD&D by identification of partnership. 4. Make high level contributions to the design of targeted country, regional, and group strategies (such as LCDs/SIDS) strategies and ensure country strategies leverage opportunities to advance collaborative RD and D 5. Work in close collaboration with team leads to identify opportunities to enhance the work of sectoral and thematic initiatives in line of the recommendation of the COP decisions on Innovation under the Technology framework. 6. Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. 7. Provide support to resource mobilization and activities related to donor reporting, workplan preparation, donor pledges etc. 8. Develop briefing notes for the CTCN Director in preparation for the UNFCCC meetings. 9. Provide technical input and carry out research related to the joint work plan between the UNFCCC and the CTCN 10. Undertake any other duty as may be assigned by the Director.

Qualifications/special skills - Advanced university degree in (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, technology, environmental science, energy systems, public policy or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - At least 10 years of progressive experience in science and technology policy, project management, climate policies/environment/energy and/or technology transfer for developing countries, preferably within the following areas of work Knowledge sharing and/or capacity building. Liaison with different stakeholders, including the private sector, governmental institutions, civil sector, etc - Engagement with government officials and multi-country development processes. - Research and analysis of political, financial, and technical information.

Languages - Strong communication and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset. Knowledge of Korean is desirable.
