Org. Setting and Reporting
Under the overall guidance of the UNDSS Security Advisor/UNMIK Chief Security Officer (SA/CSO), Deputy Chief Security Officer (D/CSO) and direct supervision of the Security Operations Centre Supervisor, the incumbent shall perform the following duties:
Responsibilities
• Monitor the mission area and report events, activities, or incidents affecting the safety and security of UN personnel and their dependents at the duty station. • Receive, transmit, or relay security and safety messages on behalf of the Designated Official or Senior Security Personnel through all authorized communication channels. • Receive, organize, and disseminate security-related information from Kosovo Police, KFOR, and EULEX Security. • Upon receiving notifications or observations of security incidents through public media, escalate them via appropriate channels for follow-up and support. • Oversee security management system distribution lists and disseminate Security Advisories, Broadcasts, and Travel Advisories via email, SMS, and other electronic channels as required. • When directed by the Designated Official, Area Security Coordinator, or Senior Security Professional, support and facilitate headcounts of all UNSMS personnel using appropriate Security Communications Systems, ensuring timely and accurate reporting per established SOPs. • Maintain contact details for emergency services, host government support structures, local authorities, and UNSMS/NGO response teams, and direct personnel to the nearest support structure during security incidents. • Disseminating “flash” reports to UNHQ as appropriate. • Produce a Daily Occurrence Report (OB) based on incidents and information gathered over a twenty-four-hour period from various sources. • Facilitate immediate support to UNSMS personnel involved in security or safety incidents, alert response and support functions through defined channels, provide feedback to the personnel involved, maintain communication, and act in a supportive role. Record all information and communications related to these incidents. • Access the Personal Information Security Database to retrieve the residence location and contact details of UN personnel or dependents in case of emergency. • Provide a SOC officer on duty at the Security Operations Centre 24/7 with 8-hour shift rotations to address information requests. During silent hours, ensure the SOC Supervisor or Deputy Supervisor is on call to respond to operational matters as needed. • Perform the duties of the FTS Switchboard Operator on a 24/7 basis, ensuring fast and reliable communication by managing all UNMIK incoming and outgoing calls. • Monitor the Radio Tracking System (HF & VHF) to track the movement of the SRSG and the assigned Security Liaison Unit (SLU) team. • Conduct monthly radio checks with the UN Integrated Security Workforce, Substantive Division, Mission Support Division, and UN Agencies, Funds, and Programs call signs. • Monitor the usage of the SCS to ensure compliance with established SOPs and guide personnel on proper behavior when using the system. • Monitor, operate, and maintain the Integrated Security System (ISS) at UNMIK Headquarters, including Personnel Access Control, Perimeter Intrusion Detection, Fire Alarm/Smoke Detection, Public Announcement, Close Circuit Surveillance, Armory Intrusion Detection, and Server Room Status Monitoring systems. • Ensure the safekeeping and management of the SOC Master Access Card, which grants access to all premises and offices within UNMIK Headquarters. • Provide crisis management support by maintaining integrated situational awareness and, where applicable, facilitating operations coordination across the mission area. • Perform other duties as tasked by SOC Supervisor, DCSO Ops or SA/CSO.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
