World Vision Solomon Islands currently implements 4 gender and Child P projects focusing on the reduction of gender-based violence and ending Violence against Children, which are implemented across four locations: Honiara, Guadalcanal Weather Coast, Temotu, and South Malaita. Additionally, World Vision Solomon Islands is seeking to mainstream gender and CP into other strategic priorities to focus on women’s economic empowerment and leadership development alongside its focus on the PTL Strategic priority (reducing GBV).

World Vision Solomon Islands has launched its ‘It Takes a World Campaign’ to End Violence against Children. This is a part of a five-year global campaign of World Vision International. In addition, from FY18 onwards, World Vision Solomon Islands has been strengthening internal Child Protection Compliance Policies and Practices. World Vision Solomon Islands has been more deliberate in ensuring Child Protection as one of cross cutting themes in current and future project designs. The Faith & Development program will leverage partnerships with churches, both nationally and in communities, to strengthen Child Protection programming and safeguarding across the country. The Sector Manager for Gender & Child Protection will manage the implementation of all projects to be on time, on budget, and on targets (meeting desired outcomes). S/he is also expected to establish and nurture partnerships with relevant Solomon Islands Government ministries and institutions, donors, churches, and all relevant development partners, in coordination with Operations Manager. S/he directly supervises Project Coordinators to guide and support all project implementation under this sector.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Project/Program Design, Implementation and ensure quality Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Leadership, Program Staff Capacity Building & Support
  • Representation & Networking
  • Strategic Planning, Resources Mobilization and Alignment

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of experience in program or project design, implementation, financial management, monitoring, evaluation and report writing, required.
  • Previous experience working in the gender sector, especially gender-based violence, in Solomon Islands and/or South Pacific
  • Experience in implementing multiple gender programming methodologies and approaches, especially WV approaches such as Channels of Hope, Positive Parenting and Celebrating Families.
  • Experience in report writing
  • Experience in managing multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience in fostering stakeholder partnerships

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in development, social science, gender, management, or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication - fluency in English required.
  • Relational skills, especially with diverse team
  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Program-related financial planning and management skills
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office or similar database, email and Internet. Zoom, Skype, Teams or related Virtual Meeting Platforms.
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems, persuade, network and negotiate.
  • Thorough knowledge of gender in development. Good knowledge on child protection. (Non-essential; can receive on the job training)
  • Ability to work gracefully under pressure.
  • Knowledge of report writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with staff and a passion for capacity building & organizational development.
