DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for an experienced Safety Specialist (Training) in Kyiv country office (travel to project offices will be required).

Overall purpose of the role:

In close collaboration with the Kyiv Safety team and under the direction of the Head of Safety (HoS), the Safety Training Specialist will be in charge of adapting and translating existing DRC safety training curricula and developing new safety trainings and materials for the DRC Ukraine mission, with a strong focus on the capacity building of Ukrainian staff. Likewise, the Safety Training Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of the training curricula, either directly or by coordinating with other trainers, both internal and external. S/he will keep track of the level of training of staff, monitoring progress, as well as identifying and foreseeing gaps and needs of training among staff, prioritizing areas of learning and what teams should take precedence when the capacity to deliver training is limited. This includes Training of Trainers (ToTs). The Safety Training Specialist will collaborate with other colleagues and departments (Support Services, Safety Department, Regional Safety Team, Labor Safety Officer) to ensure that all capacity building delivered is compliant with Ukrainian legal requirements, internal DRC and external/sectorial standards. To achieve this, the candidate will have to constantly monitor the training opportunities, trends and context of safety and training in humanitarian sector in Ukraine and regularly actualize his/her knowledge and skills. When organizing sessions, the Safety Training Specialist will take the lead in coordinating the logistics, cost estimations and general organization of trainings, with the support of Admin, Supply Chain, HR and other departments as required. S/He will ensure that all the capacity building process have a transparent and effective feedback mechanism for learning and accountability purposes and will develop and implement follow up tools to measure effectiveness of trainings and knowledge retention by staff. S/He has solid knowledge of Humanitarian sector safety standards and procedures and be familiar with in person and new technology teaching methodologies. The successful candidate will be required to periodically travel within Ukraine to deliver training in all field offices and sub offices, and the utmost respect for the confidentiality and the intellectual property of DRC.

The successful candidate will be required to develop and maintain a training register that not only tracks which staff members have completed what trainings but can also be utilized by the Training Specialist, as well as other DRC managers, to proactively identify training gaps and soon to expire certification so as to reduce the number of untrained staff within the organization.

Your main responsibilities will be

Primary responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver Safety Training curricula, adapting existing materials to the Ukrainian context.
  • Identify suitable training facilities and materials and engage with local service providers and authorities to ensure that the training facilities will meet the requirements of the organization.
  • Lead training sessions or identify and delegate the task to other competent trainers.
  • Ensure high quality of the training, as well as their compliance with Ukrainian legal framework and sector excellence standards.
  • Interact with co-trainers, external support staff, vendors, and any other parties required for the successful execution of the training.
  • Maintain an accurate training schedule to ensure that all departments are aware of upcoming training sessions & requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of administration, logistics, execution and follow-up of all training services.
  • Monitor external training opportunities, identify suitable internal candidates and facilitate their inscription.
  • Keep track of the training levels and needs of all the staff, in order to strategize the training activities in the near future.
  • Design and implement confidential and effective feedback mechanisms, continuously monitoring the quality and impact of trainings.
  • Ensure that all training equipment is accounted for and checked for serviceability.
  • Support in the technical assessment of any external safety related training providers and contents.
  • Capacity build Safety Training team’s ability to design and deliver trainings and teach.
  • Supporting the Safety Department in any tasks required.

About you

  • Certified teaching or training qualification.
  • 5 years of teaching experience.
  • 2-3 years teaching safety related subjects.

Education:

  • Practical experience in the field of safety, security and training, and the ability to design, deliver and improve training curricula.
  • Certified teaching or training qualification.

We offer:

  • Contract: Open-ended contract upon successful completion of the three-month probation period.
  • Band: G non-managerial.
  • Duty station: Kyiv office with travel to field offices, open only to Ukrainian nationals.
