Background:
The newest IFAK, version 2.0, launched in 2024, represents the necessary upgrade and renewal of the original IFAK which includes new materials, lesson plans, presentations, practical assessments, and other relevant resources to enhance this critical hands-on training. In order to ensure flexibility, add expertise, and diversify the learning environment, the use of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the new IFAK 2.0 and medical component of SSAFE trainings is encouraged.
Purpose of assignment:
The consultant will work closely with UNICEF Security staff to provide technical and practical support at IFAK and SSAFE mandatory trainings, emergency exercises.
Scope of work:
The consultant will support UNICEF Ukraine in the following the following tasks:
- Select appropriate training methods or activities (simulations, mentoring, etc.).
- Provide necessary information about available training sessions to UN and INGO personnel.
- Use known education principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques.
- Assist in conduction of IFAK and SSAFE trainings for UN staff as well as other applicable medical first aid trainings compliant with global regional and national best practices, and current UNICEF guidelines.
- Research and recommend new training matters and methods.
- Develop content for applicable medical trainings.
- Assist in implementing the first aid and emergency medicine procedures.
- Assist in keeping all mandatory training procedures and plan up to date.
- Adhere to UN mandated training plan.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Medicine is mandatory. Master's or higher degree in Medicine is beneficial.
Professional experience:
- Minimum 5-year work experience in relevant area work experience in medicine and first aid.
- Knowledge of the applicable to medical assistance rules and regulations in Ukraine.
- Knowledge of UN/UNICEF recommended first aid and emergency medicine practices.
Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills, with ability to lead/train a group of individuals and impart knowledge.
Experience in conducting first aid trainings in different settings and modalities, or associated paramedic level training is required.
- Experience of work with an international organization would be considered as a strong advantage.
- Practical experience of work in public health institutions would be of great value.
Languages:
- English: ; Advanced [C1]
Ukrainian: Proficient/Native [C2] .
Skills and competencies:
Advanced communication skills.
- Development of training material.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office programs.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
