The welcome center is an emergency shelter for migrants and Asylum Seekers who have recently been released from government custody. The Welcome Center aims to provide safe respite and supportive emergency services to Asylum Seekers while they coordinate travel to their new home in the US.

The Safety and Security Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all safety and security functions at the Welcome Center, resulting in a well-functioning, compliant environment for staff, volunteers, clients, and partners. They are the primary point of contact for all safety and security matters. This is a challenging position that requires strong organization, creative problem-solving, a high level of personal initiative, and the ability to work well in a distributed, multicultural, fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.

Major Responsibilities:

Safety and Security (S&S)

- Serve as the office’s Security Focal Point. - Coordinate immediate incident management. Report Safety & Security incidents involving covered persons in accordance with established protocols. - Lead in the development of office-specific S&S onboarding materials. Ensure the provision of S&S briefings to new staff, volunteers, and other covered persons. - Organize a minimum of one emergency evacuation exercise at office or program site level per year and other appropriate trainings informed by Security Risk Assessment findings. - Act as the daily point of contact and take the lead in coordinating the third-party security company providing unarmed guards to always maintain appropriate guard levels. - Draft specific safety and security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and the RAI Regional S&S Manager. - Monitor and report compliances with management and RAI S&S SOPs. - Build and maintain strong relationships with other S&S actors or stakeholders, including but not limited to community organizations and partners, authorities, security and rescue services, and property owners. - Ensure the facilities and infrastructure are safe and secure, overseeing the implementation of IRC Arizona and RAI Regional S&S recommendations and improvement projects.

Job Requirements:

Work Experience: 3 years demonstrated record of success in managing and improving the daily safety and/or security functions of an organization.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving and follow-through ability, and proven success in managing multiple and diverse priorities under pressure. - Strong analytic problem-solving skills with attention to detail. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications. - Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time in a demanding, fast-paced environment. - Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure. - Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels. - Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner. - Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed. - Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area. - In accordance with Arizona State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent directly related experience required.

Language Skills: Fluency in written and spoken English, bilingual ability preferred in Spanish, Portuguese or other refugee/immigrant language used in Arizona. Strong cross-cultural understanding and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred experience & skills: Knowledge of Phoenix municipal security and safety providers, vendors, and public safety authorities.

Working Environment: The Phoenix Welcome Center is a 24-hour/7 day facility; flexible work hours, including holidays, evenings, and weekends with regular contact with Welcome Center clients and volunteers, is expected.
