Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs working in 40 countries worldwide and has been operating in Ukraine since 2014. With the outbreak of the current phase of the conflict in February 2022, DRC has shifted its programming to emergency response to meet the urgent needs of conflict-affected populations and is currently undergoing a significant scale-up in operations to meet the need. Current DRC programming is focusing on protection activities, Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), NFI and Food distributions, Shelter & WASH interventions, Economic Recovery, Humanitarian Demining, and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education in 7 offices across the country. Currently undergoing a period of growth as an organization, DRC is looking for a Safety Assistant/Radio Operator to be based in to support its response.

The safety assistant and radio operator is to monitor and record all movement of DRC vehicles and staff, as well as to monitor information networks and update local alert groups in a timely fashion. S/He follows the security situation within the relevant area of operation, forwards information on any changes to the security situation to the safety Department, and always maintains a high level of alertness and discipline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To achieve the overall and specific position’s objectives the safety assistant and Radio Operator will perform the following tasks and undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Collecting daily operation location reports from relevant team leader/s
  • Convey messages in a timely manner to the relevant persons.
  • Monitor proven information networks.
  • Follow up the movement of the vehicles and staff at the operations area allocated.
  • Brief line manager, Area manger and head of safety immediately in the events of;
  • Change in the security situation
  • Vehicle- or property breaks down involving DRC
  • Any other unforeseen urgent important matter
  • Priorities the action on messages and calls received according to the nature of urgency.
  • Brief Safety Managers of any vehicle convoys, staff movement, and issues related to the operations room equipment at the end of a daily shift.
  • Maintain levels of confidentiality with regards to the information received on staff movements and operations.
  • In close collaboration with support services, provide plans for transportation along with driver schedules, ensuring the vehicle equipment are in right place and in good conditions as well as facilitating safe transportation for all staff.
  • GPS tracking systems are monitored as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, ensure DRC vehicle tracking devices are active before any movement is authorized.
  • Ensure all messages received are relayed immediately.
  • Regularly monitor the email account.
  • Update the contact list database for all DRC staff in the area.
  • Perform any other tasks as instructed by the line manager, area manager and Head of Safety.

WE OFFER:

  • Duty Station: Kyiv, full time based in Kyiv. Remote work not applicable.
  • Start date: August 2023.
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.

EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

Minimum At least 2 years of working experience with the ability to priorities a range of tasks and to work calmly under pressure

LANGUAGES:

English - the possibility of comfortable oral communication with native speakers.
