Duty Station [Aden -Yemen]

Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmers include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others. DRC Yemen has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. DRC has mainly focused on refugees and migrants displaced by conflict and natural disasters.

DRC, through its specialized business unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG) aims to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of landmines, unexploded ordinances and small arms and light weapons”. These goals can be effectively advanced through cooperation and joint action with other organization as well as with integration of operations and programs with its sister organization, DRC.

About the job:

Overall purpose of the role:

The Safety Assistant responsibility is to monitor closely the overall safety situation, collect information, analyze incidents, and report findings to Safety Manager and provide sound and timely advice to DRC staff and management in order to support the secure and efficient delivery of program activities in Yemen. In addition, the SAI works with the Safety Manager in ensuring that incidents are reported through the DRC system and to ensure proper archiving and safe keeping of safety related documents.

Geographic scope: Country (Yemen)

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the country. The role contributes to the development of country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to country operations while overseeing country activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general administrative assistance to the Safety team.
  • Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
  • Managing and archiving required documents.
  • Maintain and update safety data matrix/analysis for south area in coordination with Safety officer – information at country office.
  • Under the supervision of the SM ensure the proper process in the visa application process in coordination with Safety officer – information at country office.
  • Work together with the liaison officer for expat visas, work permits, residencies and other legal documents.
  • Assist with the implementation of regional safety policies, safety rules, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the safe implementation of program activities.
  • Assist in tracking of access and operations and in monitoring of staff field movements.
  • Carry out tasks regarding information sharing between the relevant actors within assigned areas of operations.
  • Collect, verify, analyze, and submit timely and regular reports to SM regarding issues that affect, or may affect DRC operations.
  • Assist required documentations which are required by DRC staff and visitors for concerned authorities in order to obtain visa.
  • Assist the SM with required documentation in order to meet the requirements by MOPIC regarding registration of organization and sub-agreements.
  • Administratively assisting CSM/SM when conducting safety training/workshops.
  • Assist SM in incidents and emergencies by carrying out assigned tasks in order to maintain prompt action and support for staff.
  • Assist in monitoring that access controls are in place for all DRC facilities.
  • Submit activity and weekly security incident reports.
  • Assist the procurement and issue of safety equipment.
  • Carry out other activities as requested by the SM or Area Manager.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • The applicant should be a Yemeni National, preferably female, and based in Aden.
  • Good experience in data analysis / matrix, computing: Microsoft Word, Excel and Email software
  • Good experience in document archiving.
  • A good understanding of refugee, migration and protection-related issues
  • Health Safety and Environment (HSE) training is an advantage
  • A good understanding of local politics and history
  • Previous experience in safety and security or in liaison with authorities

Required qualifications:

Education :

  • A university degree or Diploma in a discipline related to information management/Data analysis

Languages:

  • Arabic (fluent)
  • English (fluent)

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until December 2022, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work As soon as possible, and be willing and able to work in Aden with travel to field locations as needed.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (I Non- Manager) and will be reporting to Protection Team Leader.
