Overview

Lead analytical work to quantify impacts of SME activities and support IFs' capacity.

You have:

  • Advanced degree in industrial or environmental engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years working experience at international level in sustainable finance, climate finance and/or impact investing.
  • Strong experience working on ESG, social and environmental sustainability measurements, climate finance, sustainable finance, and/or other related fields.
  • Good understanding of food systems and climate related challenges in developing countries, and how environmental and social issues relate to business risks and opportunities.
  • Solid knowledge of analytical approaches/processes used in estimation/quantification/monitoring of social and environmental impacts in data-scarce situations (specifically for SMEs/businesses in developing/emerging economies).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative, and decentralized environment, and operate under tight deadlines.

Job Description

We are looking for an Impact evaluation specialist for a 10-month consultancy contract. Your primary focus will be to lead analytical work on using science-based yet scalable approaches to quantify social, environmental and financial impacts of SME activities and generate learning reports to support IFs to improve their capacity to report on impacts.

Activities****:

  1. Co-developing the reporting system, including refining the existing list of “green” business models — each representing a combination of mitigation, adaptation, and resilience solutions — that SMEs can align their operations with.

  2. Undertaking pre- and post-investment activities specifically within the scope of the FASA.

  3. Develop and deliver training materials to IFs within and beyond FASA, on topics related to Impact Measurement & Monitoring (IMM) frameworks

  4. Develop user manuals and train IFs on their use, to build IFs’ capacity to use the ImpactSF Platform.

  5. Build the capacity of IFs on data gathering for the FASA Fund, within the duration of the consultancy, and address any technical queries from the IFs.

  6. Co-report on the Annual M&E of FASA Fund impacts through analyzing and assessing results on the Platform

  7. Populate the social and environmental impact sections of FASAs annual report, including development of case studies where required

  8. Co-report on the overall learnings of the FASA Fund and delivering webinars

  9. Co-development of ImpactSF Platform iterations and tests thereof, within the duration of the consultancy.

    Deliverables:

    • Monthly progress report, summarizing:

    o Work done on pre and post investment activities through FASA

    o Development and implementation of a green list of mitigation, adaptation, and socioeconomic practices and impacts for the FASA project.

    o Support provided to IFs with data gathering efforts and any technical queries on the reporting platform

    o Support provided on annual M&E reporting of FASA impacts through the ImpactSF Platform

    o Support provided for future iterations of the ImpactSF Platform and testing

    o Trainings provided to IFs

    o Webinars provided to external stakeholders

    • 1 report detailing user manual and technical specifies of the ImpactSF Platform, including any training material

    • 1 training material pack prepared for IMM training that can be delivered to IFs.

    • 1 report detailing the agri-climate impact results to be presented in FASAs annual report

Requirements

• Advanced degree in industrial or environmental engineering.

• Minimum 2 years working experience at international level in sustainable finance, climate finance and/or impact investing. Direct experience working in Environmental, Social and Governance policies (ESG) and/or sustainability departments within SMEs/businesses is strongly preferred.

• Strong experience working on ESG, social and environmental sustainability measurements, climate finance, sustainable finance, and/or other related fields.

• Good understanding of food systems and climate related challenges in developing countries, and how environmental and social issues relate to business risks and opportunities.

• Solid knowledge of analytical approaches/processes used in estimation/quantification/monitoring of social and environmental impacts in data-scarce situations (specifically for SMEs/businesses in developing/emerging economies)

The is an international consultancy. The initial contract will be for up to 5 months, with clear Terms of Reference and deliverables as per the project guideline.
