Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Asia and the Pacific Office geographically serves 41 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It assists countries of the region pursue sustainability, particularly in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including technical expertise, facilitating access to finance, undertaking cutting-edge science-policy assessments, offering advisory services and strengthening laws, policies, management and governance. UNEP works with national and local authorities, civil society, other UN organizations, research institutions and the private sector to catalyze the efficient use of the region’s natural assets and reduce the degradation of the environment. As UNEP’s ‘New Delivery Model’ began its roll-out, many colleagues who are physically stationed in Asia and the Pacific Office have been transferred to various Divisions over the course of 2023. This organizational restructuring introduced new identities and new priorities to colleagues which highlights the need to discuss how we can deliver as One in UNEP Asia and the Pacific Office while being part of different divisions. Under the theme of ‘UNEP Asia and the Pacific: Deliver as One’, the 2024 staff retreat aims to facilitate discussion on both the opportunities and challenges that these changes offer, provide an opportunity to get to know new colleagues better and reconnect with old ones and to discuss on The New Delivery Model while identifying the best practices for collaborating and working to fulfil UNEP’s mandate in the region. To enable in-depth conversation as well as meaningful inclusion, the retreat will be organized in hybrid modality, in-person in Bangkok for staff based in Bangkok duty station and selected country office staff and virtually for remaining staff based in duty stations outside Thailand. UNEP ROAP is engaging a consultant to facilitate the 2024 Retreat of UNEP Asia and the Pacific Office.
