This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

UN Women West and Central Africa (WCA) programs, coordination and normative work support women’s economic empowerment, women’s political participation, the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and ending violence against women in 10 countries of the region. The Regional offices also works through the UN system as a technical support to gender mainstreaming in 14 countries.

In line with its Strategic Plan, UN Women WCA promotes a partnership building approach in advancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) to reach a higher impact. Expanding collaborations with bilateral and multilateral donor organizations and the private sector to increasing financing to GEWE is one of the key regional priorities.

UN Women West and Central Africa office seeks to recruit a volunteer to assist the Partnerships and Resource mobilization (PRM) regional and country units in monitoring UN Women’s historical and current partnerships building and resource mobilization performance and trends, and in conducting strategic analysis on the latter to support a data-driven approach to donor and partner engagement and fundraising, and coordination of donor outreach across the region.

Business intelligence and strategic analysis on UN Women’s funding performances in the overall region (regional and country offices) • Develop, set up and coordinate the implementation of business intelligence tools that enable the organization, tracking and analysis of the information. • Provide regular data-based analysis reports to regional and country offices’ senior management and PRM staff to support pipeline building, planning and overall coordination of fundraising efforts. • Provide ah-hoc data and reports to PRM staff to support donor outreach initiatives (donor meeting preparation, donor intelligence) • Liaise between the helpdesk in HQ and system users in the region.

Capacity building • Support WCARO in developing training sessions for the regional and country offices’ staff on performance tracking, data-driven resource mobilization and on the use of the tools. • Ensure data quality across the regional and country offices through follow-up and monitoring actions.

Contribution to the PRM regional community of practice • Support WCARO in developing regular sharing sessions to reinforce regional and country ownership of the data, present strategic analysis, showcase identified PRM best practices and discuss challenges.

professional work experience at the national and/or international level in in data analysis, business/ data intelligence • Experience using data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI is required. • Excellent command of Microsoft office suite, especially, excellent command of Excel is required, as is overall solid computer literacy, including proficiency in other MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet. • Experience with resource mobilization and donor engagement is considered an asset, as are experience working on gender equality, and in the UN or other international development organization. • Knowledge of a programming language (e.g., Python or R) is considered an asset. • Excellent analytic and reporting skills. • Excellent organizational skills. • Excellent attention to detail • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment. • Strong sense of responsibility, a flexible a proactive mindset, ability to work independently. • Ability to work in a highly pressured environment. • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing. • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Dakar, Senegal. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable).
