This position is located in the Joint Operations Center (JoC) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is currently classified as an "E" hardship and a non-family duty station. The reporting and data analyst reports to Chief JoC through one of the team leaders. The reporting and data analyst undertakes qualitative and quantitative analysis to provide Mission leadership with a 24/7 common situational overview of operational activity, to include developments of a regional nature, and to prepare consolidated reports, including daily integrated situation reports and special incident reports, based on inputs received from mission components and other relevant sources. The JOC supports the Mission's crisis management process; acts as a communications link with various components and offices and provides operational coordination, on request.

Drafting and briefing preparation:

• Maintain a high degree of situational awareness and understanding of events, developments, and trends in the mission area, including through effective cooperation, coordination, and information sharing, with Mission sections and field offices. • Under the geographic team leader, work with the geographic team and various mission components to maintain situation awareness and prepare brief related to peace and security, humanitarian and economic developments.
• Draft and edit integrated reports (including daily and weekly reports) on significant developments in the situation in the country and region for review and eventual dissemination within the Mission and to headquarters. • Produce visualization to support briefing papers and ad-hoc background papers as required.

Data analytics and visualization:

• Conduct data analysis on political, social and operational developments in UNMISS area of responsibility using SAGE and visualization using Microsoft 365 software including power BI, Excel and SharePoint.’ • Gathers, selects and analyses information on innovation, including cross-cutting new methods, digital technologies and data analytics, contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press. • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of innovation trends in general, and in particular those relating to peace and security. • Perform other tasks as required by the Head of the Reporting Team and Chief JOC.

Working in a situational awareness environment, including information collection, management and analysis to support principal-level decision making; Report writing and drafting of briefings with visualization;
Demonstrated experience in drafting products at the strategic, operational and tactical levels. Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.) Power BI, and other IT applications and office technology equipment. Have demonstrated experience working on conflict issues.

Living conditions vary between UNMISS duty stations. Each duty station where UNMISS has a field presence has basic residential camp facilities, which includes running water and electricity. Candidates should be aware that accommodation may be austere with the possibility of water shortages and power blackouts. On arrival in Juba accommodation will be on a share basis. Ablutions will also be shared. As the accommodation situation improves single unit accommodation, with an attached ablution, should become available in all locations. Hard wall accommodation is available in Juba.

All UNMISS duty stations apart from Entebbe, Uganda are considered non - family duty stations. The security level of UNMISS duty stations is classified by the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) who will brief on arrival. A number of locations in South Sudan are prone to conflict.

Primary health care services (preventive and curative) are provided in 11 United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE) Level-I clinics, 21 Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Level-I clinics, 4 COE Level-II medical facilities within the mission area and the establishment of contractual agreements for Level-III and Level-IIII care outside the mission area. The 4 Level-II facilities available in Juba, Bor, Malakal and Wau, run by the Troop Contributing Countries (TCC), take referrals from the Level-I clinics and provide hospital-based care.

The climate is tropical with a rainy season in many areas, which should normally span from around April to October. Ability to live and work in difficult and harsh conditions is essential.
