UNICEF offers the opportunity for summer interns, talented university students, to gain valuable professional experience while being exposed to UNICEF’s work. At the same time, UNICEF benefits from working with interns as they are a significant asset, providing updated academic knowledge, technical know-how and other valuable skills to the organization.

As a UNICEF PM&E Intern you will dive into the world of evidence for children to understand the needs and measure the programme achievements. With the PM&E section, you will support UNICEF programmes and relevant implementing partners in making data more user-friendly and promote its use for the best interest of children in Turkey.

Your assignment will include:

  • Provide support in reviewing, cleaning, storing, analyzing and visualizing situational and programme monitoring data and viasualise in the internal information management dashboards.

  • Provide support in consolidating inputs for reports and analytical documents that the section prepares in collaboration with UNICEF programme sections and/or with other UN agencies.

  • Provide support in the preparatory work for evaluations and research activities.
  • Provide support in preparing a child-friendly educational platform on statistics, in the framework of UNICEF’s partnership with the Turkish Statistical Institute.
  • Support the team in optimizing the use of knowledge management ICT tools such as OneDrive, SharePoint, ECM platform (Enterprise Content Management) and other digital platforms.
  • Perform other tasks to support the section, as appropriate.
  1. DELIVERABLES

Under supervision of IM Officer and in collaboration with PM&E team, the intern will contribute to the following deliverables:

  • Situational and programme monitoring data has been reviewed and visualised in the dashboards.
  • UNICEF surveys and studies are updated in the regional and CO resource library
  • Relevant evaluations and researches are supported
  • Resource library front page is designed and launched
  • Documentation library on sharepoint and ECM is up to date
  • Relevant knowledge management actions are supported

Duty Station:

The internship assignment will be home based. No travel is required.

Duration: 16-20 weeks ( preferably between June to October 2021)

Modality:

Remote - Full-time

Stipend:

In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a nominal stipend per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

Education:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in the area of social science, statistics and research
  • To have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.

Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent use of Excel, data analysis tools (Python, R and/or STATA) and visualization tools is required (PowerBI, Infograph or other). Willingness to learn new softwares will be key to the selection of the candidate.
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of research, evaluation and data collection processes.
  • Effective communication skills, excellent written English skills and ability to write clearly and succinctly.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills
  • Knowledge and experience in developing data and statistics content for children is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of humanitarian response and development programmes is an asset.
  • To be fluent in English, with strong writing skills. Additionally, fluency in another official and working language of the UN would be an asset.
  • Additional consideration will be given for any past experience in related fields.
