Result of Service

These activities started in 2022 and have continued throughout 2023 and 2024. These activities require a consultant who should have the capacity to 1/ continue working on the development of the upcoming cycle of the project including continuing the relationship with key national authorities and stakeholders working on preparedness, 2/ develop the required training and capacity building programs, 3/ facilitate workshops on required areas of preparedness, information management and assessments, based on lessons learned, 4/ recommend enhancements for emergency response protocols, according to the budget and to the risk level of the communities to be impacted by a disaster.

Duties and Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and in consultation with the Senior Management of OCHA ROLAC in Panama, the consultant hired under this project will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and may suffer slight adjustments when on the job).

Implement the capacity building program designed with SINAPRED. Contribute and review the project´s reports and products generated. Organize and coordinate the activities during the project period according to the existing calendar and the plan designed by SINAPRED. Participate in the organization of meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. with other agencies and partners in identified risk areas, facilitating exchanges of professional views on specific humanitarian-related subjects/issues; serves as reporter to such events. Organize and participate on domestic travel to community areas where activities will be implemented. Submit regular reports related to the project activities carried out. Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/issues identified in collaboration with UN team in Managua and ROLAC office. Prepare and design the final report in coordination with UNICEF & SINAPRED. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

A first-level university degree in political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field is required. Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency Preparedness, Crisis/emergency relief management and information management for emergencies is required. Experience organizing workshops in Central America is required. Experience working with relevant stakeholders in the broader humanitarian community in Central America, such as NGOs and governmental entities is required.

Languages

Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is an asset.
