Job Description

IRC Background: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S.; IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 27 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees. Job Overview: Resettle refugees arriving in Salt Lake City need to learn to navigate their new community using public transportation to attend work and school, purchase groceries and access health care services. The Refugee Transportation Specialist will coordinate with staff in the Resettlement Program to ensure that clients receive timely transit orientations utilizing client-centered training techniques. provide and coordinate transportation for arriving families and ensure that they receive the necessary living items for their initial stay in the US by coordinating and transporting supply and furniture items to new arrivals.

Major Responsibilities: •Review and develop client-centered transportation training materials •Train Resettlement Program staff on best practices for orienting clients to public transit •Provide direct assistance to clients in need of transit orientations •Develop and implement systems for tracking transit orientations and evaluating their effectiveness •Provide and coordinate transportation for new arrivals in conjunction with Resettlement Program staff •Conduct needs assessments with clients to determine the best transportation options for them and their families •Work with community partners to access free and reduced transit options and improve access to transit for refugees and immigrant communities •Use personal, insured vehicle, IRC vehicles and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients and materials •Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Education/Work Experience: •Associates Degree or equivalent preferred; or equivalent work experience, preferably in a non-profit or social services agency environment

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies: •Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. •Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. •Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively. •Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. •Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired; including Dari, Pashto, Swahili, Kinyarwanda or Arabic •Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes. •Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment: •A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. •May require weekend and/or evening work.
