Job Description

Overview The IRC in Wichita resettles refugees who are newly arrived in the U.S. and works with asylees and other immigrant populations in the community. The Reception and Placement (R&P) Assistant coordinates the completion and submission of family reunification applications for refugee and immigrant populations, particularly those associated with refugee resettlement programming. They identify current clients eligible to file such applications, conduct community outreach to advertise the programs, and work with clients to prepare and submit applications to headquarters.

Through the R&P Program at IRC, new refugees are provided basic services and support to begin a new life in the United States. The R&P Assistant also provides casework support to ensure that clients receive comprehensive, holistic services within the R&P Program and that documentation is current, accurate and compliant with donor regulations.

Major Responsibilities

Family Reunification Participate in training webinars hosted by IRC headquarters on family reunification programs. Communicate program eligibility and requirements to clients; collect documentation from clients in order to complete applications on their behalf. Complete applications in the online database; monitor database for updates and corrections needed; communicate with IRC headquarters staff on any questions or corrections needed. Track applications in order to respond to client inquiries after submission.

Casework Support Identify and secure safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees in compliance with established program requirements. Conduct ongoing outreach to current and potential landlords and property managers, building strong working relationships with the goal of increasing access to housing for refugee families and to coordinate client home repair requests as needed.Set up homes for newly arriving clients. Enroll families in public benefits. Transport clients to/from appointments such as medical appointments, social security office and school enrollment Provide individualized and group orientations for new clients. Adhere to the case file management, database documentation, and reporting requirements ensuring that case files and documentation are compliant at all times. Support caseworkers with pre- and post-arrival requirements for each case. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements 1-2+ years of experience in refugee resettlement or immigration field strongly preferred; knowledge of the US resettlement program and family reunification pathways preferred. Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe required; familiarity with IRIS a plus. Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. Solid diplomatic and networking skills; ability to effectively manage a variety of internal and external relationships. Multi-cultural sensitivity and ability to work as a member of a team. Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; strong attention to detail. Fluency in English required. Fluency in Swahili a plus. Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment: A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and “field” time in and around the service delivery area. All in-office and field work will require strict adherence to all local and IRC-specific protective and social distancing policies. May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
