For every child, education

Education technology has the power to accelerate learning, reduce learning poverty, and support skills development. It is critical for providing learning during emergencies and for system resilience. The post will support regional country offices in the design and implementation of digital learning across diverse contexts – in classrooms and at home - as well as guiding on digital transformation of education systems in the region. The post will support the Ukraine crisis response through the management of Learning Passport, Akelius, and other learning platforms, to deliver education to refugee children. The post will also strengthen partnerships within UNICEF (HQ and the Office of Innovation) and outside of the organisation, in particular with the EU and other organisations, and the private sector.

How can you make a difference?

  • Advise the Regional Advisor Education on the development and implementation of strategic interventions to set up and scale up digital learning initiatives within the Regional Office and country offices.
  • Advise on different initiatives and strategies to ensure they are designed for the needs of end users within different Country Offices within ECARO.
  • Provide education sector advice to different projects on digital learning regarding product development, implementation roadmaps, and scale up strategies for different contexts and users. Brokering connection between learning innovation portfolio projects and UNICEF’s education programs in the field, including interaction with country offices, key government officials, NGO’s, and other UN agencies, in order to support the testing, acceleration and scale up.
  • Design and implement capacity building programs on EdTech for ECARO COs and particularly in the context of the Ukraine education response, supporting education colleagues in the field of cutting edge new tools, technologies, and approaches to innovation in learning.
  • Provide expertise on best pedagogies, learning approaches, education policies, and cutting-edge practices on education systems within ECARO.
  • Other duties may be required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s) in Education, Education Technology, Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, and/or another relevant technical field. *A first level university degree (Bachelor's) in a relevant technical field (as identified above), in conjunction with ten (10) years of relevant work experience, in lieu of an advanced university (Master’s) degree.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience is required, at national and international levels, in developing, implementing and supporting education programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the field implementing education programmes within a range of different countries and contexts in the global south is required.
  • Experience of UNICEF and building collaboration and partnership across the UN system and excellent understanding of the global education system, main stakeholders and initiatives.
  • Excellent understanding and expertise in best pedagogies, learning approaches, education policies, cutting-edge practices on education systems strengthening.
  • Experience working within a startup environment and using design thinking and agile methodologies would be an asset.
  • Experience in building communities of practice or capacity building would be an asset.
  • Very good understanding, expertise and experience in digital learning. Ability to lead innovative approaches in digital learning in a variety of contexts with a strong understanding of equity principles and delivering innovation and digital learning for the most disadvantaged.
  • Good knowledge of global developments in education and international engagement strategies, including the application of the equity lens and human rights perspectives to programming in both sustainable development and humanitarian programming.
  • Good education sector planning and policy knowledge/ability, as it relates to digital learning, including the range of modalities for delivering digital education, cost-effectiveness and efficiency issues, equity and access, key institutional structures, components and processes, as well as governance issues.
  • Good understanding of gender and inequity issues in relation to education and development and the application of gender / equity analysis to policy and planning in education.
  • Experience working in an emergency setting is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.
