You have:
- A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as Mason in Engineering Field or related area is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of English is required.
Result of Service The ultimate result of service is the refurbishment of various buildings located in the UNGSC compound in Brindisi (including wall cracks repaired, Walls painted, roofs repaired, gypsum panels installed, etc.)
Work Location Brindisi
Expected duration The proposed individual contractor will be hired as soon as possible until the 30th of June 2022.
Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.
This position is located in the Infrastructure Cell of Campus Support Unit, within the Central Service (CS), at the UNGSC, Brindisi, Italy.
The incumbent reports to and works under the supervision of the Chief Campus Support Unit.
The Infrastructure Cell of Campus Support, responsible for the maintenance of UNGSC facilities and infrastructure, is seeking for qualified masons. The supporting individual contractors will be hired until the end of June. S/He will be supporting the refurbishment of few buildings and external areas. More specifically, the mason shall:
- Repair and alter buildings, retaining walls and other brick or stone facilities; - Mix mortar; lay bricks and stones and/or concrete sidewalks; make and repair steps; - Patch and/or replace brick; - Install and repair tile floors and/or walls; - Read blueprints; - Install false ceiling and false flooring; - Install gypsum panels; - Estimates masonry jobs; - Do carpentry work incidental to masonry work; - Assign work to a helper or apprentice; - Pick up requisitioned tools and materials; - Implement and comply with all health and safety precautions; - Assist the masons team in any other task, as required.
Qualifications/special skills Skills: Valid driver’s license is required. Academic Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent is required Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as Mason in Engineering Field or related area is required. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position knowledge of English is required.
