Result of Service The primary result from the service is to support UN secretariat clients for technical documentations, design and complete report for the containerized PV system.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretarial Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.

This position is located in Innovation and Infrastructure Support (IIS) of the Supply Chain Service, United Nations Global Service Centre in Brindisi, Italy.

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, the PV Technical Expert will be responsible for the following tasks:

General: Provide practical advice on appropriate SMART projects in SMART City concepts: Practical physical applications on solar energy that are scalable and can be implemented in the context of UN Peacekeeping Mission’s infrastructure whereby Military, Police and Civilians are provide working and living infrastructure in self-contained camps of various sizes. At the UNGSC Logistics Base multidiscipline workshops are available to ‘manufacture’ physical prototypes and a simulated Camp (Green Island) has been constructed as a testing bed for simulating UN Camp infrastructure.

Solar Energy System Optimization: - Design Review - Provide an expert opinion on the prototype containerized PV (Photovoltaic) system that has developed. - Make recommendations as to necessary design changes and improved installation arrangements to the System. - Supervising the installation of the rooftop solar system in accordance with specifications, standards and the technical guidelines for the project: - Analyze possible issues during installation -Monitoring the implementation of the supply and works contracts (supply, installation, capacity building - Creating checklist for review or inspection of the completed PV system - Participate in site inspections prior, during and at end of project installation - Providing, writing technical recommendations for the solar system - Supervising project sign off at project completion stage - Participate in any necessary project evaluations - Providing expert guidance to update our outreach efforts and catalogue of available commercial solutions with prices. - Provide technical input as required in the development and implementation of supply and service contracts, including in preparing Statements of Work, technical evaluation and presentations to Local Committee on Contracts. - Communicates and liaises effectively with the United Nations (UN) Staff. - Adopts good manufacturing practices and safely on all work assignments. - Ensure that a project runs smoothly and that the specific project is completed on time and within the estimated budget. - Ensures full compliance with all environmental standards and requirements in carrying out the above-mentioned tasks, as well as compliance with overall policies, procedures and guidelines pertinent to mission activities, considering quality management and risk management best practices. - Suggest ways to institute control and methods to improve service and reduce cost for the United Nations. - Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills Education: A first level university degree in Science, Engineering or related field to energy efficiency or renewable energy is required. A post graduate qualification in Project Management or Solar energy is desirable.

Work experience: A minimum five (05) years of experience in implementation of solar energy installations (engineering, procurement, and commissioning, solar plant audits, project management). A minimum of one (01) year of working experience in planning and design of electrical and mechanical networks and systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building automation etc.) Experience in design of building electrical systems using specialized software such as TiSystem, I-Project or equivalent.

Certifications: A Professional certification, validated and recognized by an appropriate licensing authority, against predefined standards, is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.

Additional Information Duration shall be counted from the actual EOD date up to the fixed date to be determined. The Technical expert will work on-site for the full duration of the assignment.
