The UNV assignment is part of the public information activities of UNICRI that are aimed at raising awareness of the issues addressed by the Institute in the field of justice and crime prevention; ensuring that the strategic vision and achievements of UNICRI are clearly expressed and conveyed to a variety of different stakeholders; strengthening the brand and mission of the Institute; increasing exchange and dissemination of knowledge and information worldwide; promoting the establishment of platforms for cooperation; enhancing the Institute positioning and visibility as a result-oriented, high-quality provider of technical assistance, action oriented research and training; and providing high-quality customer service in public information. Within the assigned authority and under the supervision of Public Information Officer (Communications), the UN Volunteer will: Contribute to the development and implementation of communication and outreach/advocacy strategy and plans; Support the implementation of the Institute’s communication strategy; Monitor and analyse print, visual and social media and prepare reports; Contribute to the development and dissemination of communication materials globally; Develop and produce communication materials, including briefing materials, press releases, newsletters and articles and support their dissemination through effective channels; Support the editing, proofreading and review process of publications and other communication material produced by UNICRI; Translate documents into English from one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations. (In particular, Arabic and French); Design and produce videos, and photo-reportages on UNICRI’s work; Contribute to the development and implementation of communication and outreach/advocacy strategy and plans; Support the implementation of the Institute’s communication and outreach/advocacy strategy; Support the design and implementation of communications campaigns in support of UNICRI’s priorities; Identify relevant stakeholders to be engaged; Support the organization of roundtable discussions and interviews; Contribute to UNICRI’s web/ online activities; Support the management of UNICRI’s websites, including developing the design and content; Contribute to the management of UNICRI’s social media, including preparing posts in line with the corporate social media policy; Contribute to media relations and monitoring; Analyse, monitor and prepare reports on coverage of UNICRI priorities and activities across various media; Conduct social media analysis and prepare reports; Support media outreach and assist update the media database; Facilitate knowledge building and sharing; Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned from UNICRI’s programmes and ensure exchange of information; Support the organization of events; Liaise with and provide support to partners and experts involved in the events organized by UNICRI; Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNICRI team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNICRI and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: New communications plans, campaigns and visibility actions are designed at international and national level; New communication materials are prepared and shared with relevant stakeholders, in particular experts and media professionals; The websites and social media channels are constantly updated; Broad networks of stakeholders are developed and involved in UNICRI initiatives; Regular reports are produced; Programme partners are properly and timely updated; Events are of great relevance and well attended. • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

national and/or international level in advocacy, communications, public information, or other relevant programmes; experience with video production and editing is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Experience in media relations and media monitoring skills; • Experience in social media and web content management; • Experience in the production of audio-visual materials, particularly video production and editing; • Accuracy and professionalism in the production and editing of publications; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with Adobe creative and Canva; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

It is a safe city, violent crimes are rarely reported and visitors are not likely to have any incidents involving anything more than petty crime. The climate in Turin is more continental than Mediterranean. Turin is a nationally and internationally important railway junction and has its own international airport. Turin, is characterized by reasonably priced housing. Renting an apartment may cost between €500 and €900 per month depending on the type of accommodation and on the area of town.

UNICRI is in the UN Campus that is located on 10 hectares of riverside parkland and hosts other national and international organizations such as the ITC-ILO and UNSSC. The Campus annually runs more than 450 programmes and projects involving approximately 11,000 people from over 180 countries and also offers leisure time, dining, and sports facilities to its guests.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service.
