Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Nicosia. The incumbent will report to Spokesperson or her/his designate.

Responsibilities - Provides specialized assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services as per UNFICYP’s communications strategy across internal and external stakeholders. - Researches a broad scope of information sources related to the UN in general and to UNFICYP and the Good Offices in particular, printed and electronic; compiles and presents information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences. - Serves as an information focal point on UNFICYP activities open to accredited press and coordinate media coverage of important events; compiles, produces and distributes to journalists basic information (e.g. press kits, media advisories, press releases) on the wide spectrum of UNFICYP activities open to the press; briefs relevant parties on policies and procedures governing media coverage of UNFICYP and media visits to the UN Protected Area, including clearance/accreditation of requirements, etc.; liaises with external media, UN/UNFICYP photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates logistic and technical arrangements/requests and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; researches, evaluates and processes applications for UNFICYP security clearances/accreditations and control media access to press briefings, etc. - Organizes and executes special events and International Days for UNFICYP and OSASG, coordinating with diverse partners and the media to highlight and publicize key events, acts as PIO focal point for outreach activities, bicommunal events in order to further increase UNFICYP and OSASG engagements with the media, civil society and other key target audiences. - Handles administrative coordination in support of special training with Cyprus Civil Society Groups on how to promote their work and activities as well as other programmes. - Performs junior photo-librarian functions that include provision of public information and library research services on UNFICYP PIO Share Drive, K Drive and UNFICYP Flickr to requesters of photographic materials, and cataloguing/indexing of photographs. - Oversees the distribution of UNFICYP audio and video materials; ensures the good management of the video archives on UNFICYP PIO Share Drive, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual materials. - Serves as the online marketing and promotion coordinator of UNFICYP PIO by overseeing the day-to-day marketing activities and working closely with the audio/visual webmaster to ensure successful branding techniques; undertakes proactive call and directs mail initiatives to build a client base and nurture relationships with UNFICYP clients; produces a wide range of promotional products; and develops data collection mechanisms to gather data on the audience and end-users of UNFICYP audio/visual products. - Assists in the production and editing of video and multimedia projects, website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram projects: researches diverse print and electronic information sources for topics and materials to be used in the projects; suggests ideas on content, narration texts, audio excerpts, design elements, etc.; selects and catalogues sound and visual materials and evaluates quality for inclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights; transcribes audio materials available only on audio format. - Participates in planning and execution of live broadcasts of UNFICYP events and videos on social media such as Facebook; directs ENG camera crews shooting on location; books meeting time and venue and schedules pre-production and post-production editing sessions for posting of videos on social media; performs digital audio editing of inserts and other recorded components of events and videos; coordinates the narration, excerpts and music segments of scripts for final broadcasting; produces scripts; arranges for interviews, provides logistical support and facilitates the movement of technical personnel and participants to get access to the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) for videos/interviews needed for the projects; identifies and selects appropriate and relevant excerpts of speeches and statements for voice-over processing and language adaptations; coordinates translation from Cyprus official languages Greek and Turkish into English and vice versa/adaptation of scripts, the recording of narrations and the preparation of electronic titles and graphics needed for the final product. - Assists in the electronic dissemination of programmes; prepares, maintains and updates web page, to include drafting and editing content; uploads/downloads audio files and maintains file structure. Contributes regularly to UNFICYP’s social media platforms with content, photos and assistance in video production to reach key audiences locally and internationally; writes news stories for the Mission’s website and support content management on the platform; contributes to the production of content for a range of print and online communications productions in support of the mission’s mandate; acts as support manager for UNFICYP's website, edits and updates pages and uploads new content. Prepares posts for social media, particularly on outreach activities, including drafting text and selecting appropriate photos, videos and links; post and share information on the UNFICYP Facebook page; responds to messages and public comments as required. - Identifies and prepares new material for inclusion on the UNFICYP website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with programmatic offices as required; identifying, editing documents to conform to UNFICYP format; preparing and updating index of documents; posting documents on the UNFICYP website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. - Manages updates and further develops internal databases; update UNFICYP website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases and fine-tuning annual Results-Based Budgeting reports to UN HQ; collects statistics on PIO outputs, develops and manages the statistics database, produce and provide reports as necessary to support PIO's budgeting and planning requirements. - Provides guidance and training to junior staff and peers by overseeing and supporting the daily performance of the Military Public Information Officer and Force Photographer. - Performs other duties as assigned.

Education High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, online media or related areas.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Greek and Turkish is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
