Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader , the Protection Officer (Case Management) will support in the implementation of case management services targeting the most vulnerable individuals with a focus on women and girls. To this avail the Protection Officer (Case Management) will be responsible for the management of internal and external referral mechanisms to ensure adequate service provision for beneficiaries. Additionally the Protection Officer (Case Management) will oversee and directly provide psycho-social support to individuals and groups and PFA where needed, and to contribute to the technical direction of PSS programming, including on-going curriculum development, staff training and mainstreaming of PSS into all protection activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Programming & Operations

In compliance with best-practice and international standards in response, provide direct Psycho Social Support (PSS) for vulnerable women and girls and particularly survivors. Case management services will include assessment of needs, development of an action plan for recovery, conducting referrals to relevant services, implementing the action plan and ensuring appropriate follow up and case closure when appropriate. The case management process should be implemented through a survivor-centered approach;
Prepare and implement PSS plan for vulnerable individuals and other targeted groups
Support the mainstreaming of PSS key messages and principles to other programmes and projects
Support case workers to provide appropriate Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) to vulnerable individuals
Efficiently manage the time and schedule of PSS activities through work-plans in collaboration with Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager
Provide individual and group counseling for vulnerable individuals
Provide technical guidance on facilitation skills, and PSS key messages and communication skills
Provide technical guidance on community-based PSS programming and identify outreach opportunities for innovative community based protection activities
Identify and refer clients with mental health issues that warrant clinical intervention
Understand and follow up on activities and assess progress of implementation, provide solutions and report issues when needed
Refer protection cases to Protection Team Leader ; including updating relevant databases on referrals and feedback
Receive referrals from different agencies, do action plan and appropriate response to each case; and send referrals to different agencies according to the action plan developed with the client;
Ensure the referral mechanism system (SOPs) is known, applied and monitored;
In collaboration with the supervisor, support case management trainings for the case workers and prepare a weekly schedule for regular coaching and assistance in solving difficult cases.
Support the caseworkers to ensure timely case management for women and girls (including legal advice, referral to hospitals and clinics, material assistance when needed);
Monitor and follow up the outcomes of the material assistance provided for the survivors.
Conduct post distribution monitoring with interviews to evaluate the impact of the material given to them.
Make sure awareness schedule is respected, planned and coordinated in advance;
Build good working relationships with other service providers and partners such as hospitals, MCHs, police, legal and paralegal, case workers to assure the referral of cases is confidential, safe and according to minimum standards;
On a weekly and monthly basis prepare progress report and share with the relevant staff

Experience and technical competencies:

Experience

Minimum 2-3 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO or similar setting
Field experience in PSS
Bachelor degree in psychology, PSS required
Previous experience in working with communities, raising awareness and providing services
Experience in facilitating group activities
Demonstrated commitment to achieving gender equality, promoting women’s leadership and eliminating discrimination and violence against women
Knowledge about sexual and reproductive health
Proven leadership skills and experience supervising staff
Experience in social work or counselling
Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
