The humanitarian situation in DRC is characterized by serious protection concerns and limited capacity of conflict-affected people to meet their basic needs, within a broader context of structural fragility that is exacerbated by conflict and displacement, reducing the capacity of communities to recover and rebuild. UN Women has received funding from Japan to implement a project in favour of women and girls who are victims of conflict in DR Congo. The volunteer will assist in the implementation of project activities in the province of Nord Kivu/ituri in collaboration with the gender division.

Under the direct supervision of the Gender and Humanitarian Action project manager, the Psychosocial Assistant will be responsible for the psychosocial support and case management service, supervision of the activities of the women and girls social cohesion space. She or he will ensure the quality of data collection and advocacy related to the services. This position supervises community volunteers..

• Ensure the management of social cohesion spaces for women and girls • Provision of psychosocial services for women, youth, and girls including psychological first aid through telephonic counselling services • Organize and supervise case management and psychosocial activities for women and girls in emergency situations. • Conduct training on IGA beneficiary groups and monthly monitoring of IGA groups for • Provide Case management for GBV survivors and people at risk to reduce the risk of harm to their lives. • Organize and supervise referral strengthening activities for GBV survivors, including the identification of gaps in the provision of health, case management and psychoso-cial services. • Organize and supervise the distribution of kits to members of IGA beneficiary groups for women. • Strengthening the referral mechanism, and the safety, security and confidentiality of survivors accessing referral services. • Organize and supervise the implementation of psychosocial (socio-recreational) activities. • Organize socio-recreational activities to women, girls, and youth groups to strengthen the social fabric in the protection and information center • Contribute to the analysis of difficulties encountered by women and girls in accessing basic services. • Contribute to Develop key messages and an information dissemination program related to community needs. • Participate in GBV sub-group meetings by ensuring that meetings are held, that agendas and minutes are produced, and that the various advocacy issues are reported to the national level • Any other related tasks that may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

At least two years of professional experience in the field of GBV management within an international or national NGO recognized for the value of its organizational mechanisms. Experience in formal and informal training Humanitarian experience in the field (actual setting where a mission and/or project is being implemented) in emergency situations (complex emergency or natural disaster) is required. Experience in case management programming is desirable. Experience in a humanitarian context within the UN common system or in a comparable international organization is desirable.

Goma/Bunia is a province of DR Congo. The current security level is 4, which is only two steps below the highest UN security level classification (the highest being 6). Movement of UN personnel is restricted and must comply with UN security measures. Living conditions are good and candidates should be prepared to consider the position as one without family. The local populations are mixed Muslim and Christian. There is a large community of national and international UN and INGO staff. Basic facilities are available. A detailed security briefing is provided to all new arrivals by security personnel upon arrival. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own accommodation and other essentials of life.
