Purpose

The Project Officer(PO) for Malaria will support the Technical Lead for Malaria in executing malaria intervention projects. This role includes planning, implementing, and monitoring project activities for malaria prevention and control. The PO will collaborate with community stakeholders and health systems to deliver effective malaria interventions and contribute to the national malaria reduction goals

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of malaria control projects, including insecticide-treated net distribution, malaria case management,
  • Coordinate with local health authorities and community leaders to ensure smooth project roll-out.
  • Monitor project progress against targets and timelines, and suggest adjustments as necessary.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for community health workers and volunteers on malaria prevention and treatment protocols.
  • In collaboration with DHMT develop educational materials and conduct awareness campaigns to increase community knowledge about malaria prevention and control.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on project activities, outcomes, and impact to the Technical lead for Malaria.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Technical Lead for Malaria and other stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government entities, non-governmental organizations, and community groups involved in malaria control.
  • Represent the organization at relevant meetings and for at district level related to malaria; and report to the technical malaria lead.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Technical Lead for Malaria.
  • Ensure implementation of Audit and Risk Assessment recommendations in the Malaria project and its impact areas within the operational areas Technical performance
  • Planning and Implementation of Malaria Control Projects
  • Design and lead activities related to service delivery systems, including client-centred, ICCM, prevention and treatment services
  • Lead training and capacity building for partner organizations, healthcare providers, and relevant stakeholders at the district level

  • Capacity Building and Community Engagement

  • Track progress of all project activities against established work plans and preparing comprehensive reports to monitor malaria project performance.

  • Update the technical lead for Malaria on project activities, progress, and achievements to foster transparency and accountability.

  • Provide review of program implementation report submitted by SR’s

  • Lead Malaria-related program design, planning and management, coordination and communication, and reporting with sub-partners

  • Oversee quality assurance of Malaria program activities and services and data quality, implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans in line with MoH and WHO

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting Networking and Liaison with different stakeholders.

  • Foster collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program and District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) to strategize and execute Malaria programs

  • Forged robust partnerships with, DHMT and key stakeholders, ensuring seamless alignment of project objectives with overarching goals.

  • Provide support to the technical lead for Malaria and NMCP leadership, offering strategic insights and operational guidance to ensure the project’s smooth functioning.

  • Represent WVISL at relevant technical Malaria working groups and other fora’s at district level.
  • Works with national level leadership to develop strategies to effectively engage the private sector in Malaria programming are adopted
  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

Other responsibilities:

  • Participate to WVISL technical and management engagements to foster programmatic integration and collaboration for impact and sustainability.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned, including administrative and planning functions.

.KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public/ Community Health, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience in malaria control programs or similar public health initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of malaria epidemiology and public health principles related to disease prevention and control.
  • Experience working with community health systems and rural communities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in data management and analysis using statistical software

  • Experience in conducting Outreach Training and Supportive Supervision approaches (OTSS). Strong understanding of the Malaria epidemiology, prevention strategies, and control measures.

  • Solid experience in working with health district, and community levels

  • Good experience in organizing community health projects/programs.
  • Experience working with District Councils and DHMTs
  • Experience liaising with the national MoH, representing a project and an organization.
  • Partnership experience working with key health partners, including those in NMCP; and good knowledge of the Sierra Leone health systems
  • Ability to manage teams, initiate and organize work, establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Knowledge and minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience working in Malaria Sector in Sierra Leone
  • Experience working with Ministry of Health on policy and strategy
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
