The overall purpose of this Local Communities and Sustainable Tourism in Petra and Wadi Rum project is to ensure the sustainable conservation of World Heritage Sites of Petra and Wadi Rum, while offering local communities the possibility to take part in the preservation of the sites through small cash-for-work activities, enhance their capacity in tourism and hospitality-related activities, and raise their awareness on the importance of their role in the safeguarding of their own cultural heritage. The project will also contribute to improving sites presentation and ensuring the continuation of tourism activities, thus supporting the tourism-based economy on which local communities’ livelihoods depend almost entirely. Long Description ---------------- Under the supervision of the Head of Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the project by carrying out the below (but not limited to) tasks: 1\. Manage the overall coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the project Local Communities and Sustainable Tourism in Petra and Wadi Rum and ensure the effective and efficient achievement of the objectives and expected results: - Update regularly the project workplans, including the procurement plan for goods and services; - Prepare and manage contracts including drafting Terms of References (ToRs), Requests for proposals (RFPs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs), identifying suitable providers, contractors or consultants for the implementation of the activities, assessing the quality of services provided and ensuring that deliverables and payments are done on time; - Supervise and coordinate the activities of the consultants and service providers hired in the framework of the project; - Maintain regular communication and consultation with the representatives of relevant Government authorities and the donor; - Organize technical and steering committee meetings and ensure follow-up on the decisions with relevant stakeholders; - Conduct periodic reviews of the project with government counterparts and the donor as well as prepare analytical progress reports to donor, briefings and other documents to be shared with the relevant Government authorities and the donor; - Undertake regular monitoring visits to the project sites to ensure timely intervention and decide on course of action to mitigate any arising issues; - Ensure the effective communication and visibility of the project activities and achievements to the donor, government counterparts and public at large; - Regularly monitor the financial status of the project and prepare budget revisions as necessary; and - Prepare and submit the final narrative report and the end-of-project evaluation of the project. Support the culture team in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the other Regular Programme and Extrabudgetary Project activities related to the culture sector programme in Jordan.Explore new areas of project development in the field of culture and sustainable development in close consultation with relevant national stakeholders, UNESCO World Heritage Centre and other UNESCO programmes to develop concept notes for resource mobilization in line with the Jordan Response Plan to the Syria Crisis, National Tourism Plan, and the four priority areas of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the period of 2023-2027 (UNSDCF 2023-2027). 3\. Participate in coordination meetings with other UN agencies to identify opportunities for joint programming focusing on culture and sustainable development within the framework of the UNSDCF 2023-2027 as well as provide inputs to the monitoring and reporting of culture programme activities implemented within the framework of the UNSDCF 2023-2027.
