This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority of the Country Director and under the supervision of the International Programme Coordinator or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Project Officer will:

  • *Planning and implementation*****:

  • Support the development of annual and quarterly work plans for the activities planned in the project;

  • Contribute to the planning, implementation of interventions and ensure the control, quality assurance and monitoring of project activities;

  • Technical and financial monitoring:

  • In collaboration with the UNFPA Monitoring and Evaluation team, develop a project monitoring and evaluation plan incorporating the indicators;

  • Collect and analyze technical/financial data/information relating to the project;
  • Prepare the half-yearly and annual project reports with the project stakeholders;
  • Participate in the various meetings on the project and share the reports;
  • Support the project review, with the participation of all stakeholders, to reflect project activities and achievements, identify good practices and lessons learned, and agree on post-project follow-ups if necessary. All these elements will be included in the final project report.
  • In collaboration with the project team, develop the progress report and the final report to be submitted to the Government of Japan in accordance with UNFPA monitoring and evaluation guidelines.

  • Coordination and communication:

  • In collaboration with the project team, contribute to the establishment of a knowledge management system and sharing of lessons learned based on the results of the project, to the preparation and production of case studies based on lessons learned;

  • Ensure the facilitation of exchanges and the circulation of information between the actors involved in the implementation of the project at central and sub-national levels.
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations relating to the project for meetings or communication events on the project;
  • Coordinate, in consultation with the UNFPA communication Country Office and regional team, information and communication activities to ensure the visibility of the support provided by the Japanese government and the communication of results.
  • Translating relevant communication and visibility materials in Japanese for uploading on web and social media channels of the Tokyo Liaison Office.
  • Coordinate with the Tokyo Liaison Office as required to raise the visibility of the project towards the target audience in Japan and provide necessary inputs.l
  • Liaise with the Embassy of Japan for the progress of the project and explore opportunities for collaboration.

  • **Support to partners****:

  • Provide technical advice to the project team and UNFPA partners for the implementation of the project and the achievement of expected results;

  • Support field visits by UNFPA staff , national entities or other partners;

  • Perform any other tasks required by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced higher degree (Master’s degree level) in a relevant area related to public health, gender, sustainable development, peacebuilding, social sciences, programme management, or communication; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

At least five (5) years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in public health, project management, reporting, M&E, and communication or other relevant programmes; experience working in developing country is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization

Language skills:

  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

  • Technical knowledge in sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender-based violence is desired
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in UNFPA’s mandate, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
