United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in over 170 countries and territories, including Kazakhstan, helping eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities and exclusion. UNDP Kazakhstan has been part of the country’s development progress since 1992 having implemented more than 200 projects worth over 200 million USD in a wide array of thematic areas. UNDP provides targeted policy support to civil service and public administration reforms, efforts, contributing to anti-corruption and more government transparency, prevention of gender-based violence, promotion of the rights of people with disabilities, and access to justice. Environmental governance, climate change adaptation and low- carbon development are also among our flagship partnership initiatives in Kazakhstan.

This UNV assignment is part of UNDP’s portfolio of projects on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): “Set-up of an SDGs platform for Central Asia” and “Joint Programme on aligning policy and financing with SDGs”.

“Set-up of an SDGs Platform for Central Asia” is a joint initiative of the European Union (EU) and UNDP. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable development through establishing a knowledge-sharing platform supporting Central Asian countries to track and adjust key socio-economic policies by monitoring SDG progress and financing as well as improving the effectiveness of regional EU programmes towards this goal.

“Joint Programme on aligning policy and financing with SDGs” funded by the UN Joint SDG Fund is a programme that is being implemented in Kazakhstan by UNDP, UNICEF, and UN ESCAP with a leading role of UNDP. The aim of the programme is to support the Government of Kazakhstan in aligning policy and financing with SDGs towards adopting an integrated national financing framework (INFF).

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNDP Project Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Project Events Support Assistant will:

• Support the Project Manager with coordinating tasks implementation by the Summit organization company, the venue manager, and the Communication support company, • Coordinate Summit preparation process between the project team, UNDP Communications Office and PIU, • Daily monitor and update Summit participants list, • Accept and respond to the calls of participants explaining Summit details (venue, time, agenda, logistics note), • Update the Summit agenda with a new information received, • Report on the new updates regarding Summit preparations to the Project Manager on a daily basis, • Organize volunteers for the Summit (at least 50 people) and manage their presence during the Summit, coordinate the activity with the Summit organization company, • Take notes of the Summit sessions and prepare a report with Summit actions/takeaways/recommendations, • Draft terms of references for the VNR preparation consultants/services and cost estimation (if needed), • Perform other duties as required.

Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNDP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNDP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Effective and timely support to the UNDP Project manager during preparation to the Second Regional SDG Summit and Voluntary National Review, • High-quality preparation of required documents, • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated, and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Nur-Sultan is the modern, vibrant capital city of Kazakhstan which between 1998 and 2019 was known as Astana and before that as Akmola. The city lies on the banks of the Ishim River in the north-central part of Kazakhstan. A 2020 official estimate reported a population of 1,136,008 within the city limits, making it the second-largest city in the country, after Almaty. Nur-Sultan's climate is defined by warm summers and long, dry winters.

Security: UN Security level: Minimal-1

Nur-Sultan is a safe city, but the usual precautions should still exercise.

Emergency numbers: In case of emergency, please call "101" (Fire services), "102" (Police), "103" (Ambulance), "104" (Gas Service), "112" (Rescue service in emergency situations). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
