Reporting Lines

The Project Coordination Assistant, SC-5 is Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and close collaboration with Deputy FAO Representative and direct supervision of the Int’l Policy Specialist, the Project Coordination Assistant will be responsible for the following:.

Technical Focus

The Project Coordination Assistant will work for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Initiatives including Anticipatory Action and Emergency and Response, Support linking Anticipatory Action and Shock-Responsive Social Protection including cash preparedness and AA capacity building, Assist collaboration efforts both with key partners and potential donors and support project documentation, communication efforts and evidence-based advocacy efforts.

Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following deliverables:

• Support hazard monitoring, risk profile analysis, and impact-based forecasting for anticipatory action, emergency response, and recovery. • Conduct community risk assessments to identify risks to agriculture, food security, priority areas, and livelihoods. • Consolidate early warning information on priority risks and select key indicators for primary climate risks. • Formulate hazard-specific crisis timelines and identify timings for early warning and anticipatory action. • Coordinate with government departments and stakeholders to define protocols and standard operating procedures for linking early warning to anticipatory action. • Assist in the timely implementation of anticipatory action and emergency response operations at the country level, including conducting field missions and advising on operational arrangements. • Embed Anticipatory Action into national and local disaster risk management systems. • Liaise with social protection and cash preparedness experts to design humanitarian assistance and beneficiary targeting. • Support beneficiary targeting and data analysis to link social protection with anticipatory action initiatives. • Conduct pilots, generate evidence, build capacity, and advocate to improve emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. • Support capacity-building activities and deliver the FAO Anticipatory Action learning program. • Strengthen collaboration for joint initiatives with actors, partnerships, and inter-agency efforts. • Engage donors and new partners on the Anticipatory Action agenda. • Produce and update information products such as reports, maps, charts, and infographics. • Prepare project progress reports, activity reports, lessons learned, case studies, and other special reports as needed. • Any other task assigned by the FAOR/AFAOR when necessary.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in science or social science discipline. Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in Environment/Climate Change, Geography, Agriculture, Statistics, and Development Studies would be considered as an asset • 5 to 6 years of relevant professional experience to handle a programme and information management including work experience with national and international NGO’s, UN agencies, governments and donors. • National of Bangladesh • Working knowledge of English and Bangla (C1)

Technical/Functional Skills

• Strong analytical skills: ability to summarize and present complex information in effective manner. Experience in using infographics will be an added advantage. • Skills in networking, negotiation, persuasion and advocacy for mainstreaming new concepts and approaches. • Knowledge and understanding of DRR issues and DRM framework in Bangladesh. Incumbent must be familiar with agenda on Forecast-based Financing / Action (FbF/FbA) or Anticipatory Action and Emergency/Rapid Response. • Extent and relevance of experience in management of computer programs such as Excel, Word, Power Point and statistical software. • The candidate must demonstrate high communication skills both verbal and written, negotiation, vision, strategy, coordination and teamwork. • Strong analytical, critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills, as well as gender-sensitive and cross-cultural • Competency and Knowledge and experience in HR • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate and influence across different levels and diverse teams in and out of the • Organization.
